Karl G. Lowe

K.G.

Karl G. Lowe, the-pick-of-the-litter, husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa, pharmacist and friend passed away unexpectedly on May 2, 2011.  His life was a testimony of love and devotion.

Karl was born  in Grace, Idaho on August 5, 1925 to Moroni Lowe and Mary Anne Burton Lowe.  Karl (U.S. Navy) and three of his brothers all served their country during WWII.  He graduated from Idaho State University in 1949 as a pharmacist and practiced for 56 years, retiring at age 79.  He and his brothers Reed and Sherman owned nine Lowe’s Pharmacies in Utah and Idaho.  Karl was devoted to his patients and his profession.  Karl was the consummate Scout Master for 25 years and was awarded the Silver Beaver from the Boy Scouts of America.  He served in the Monument Park 3rd Ward and started a troop in Central City sponsored by the Exchange Club, receiving the club’s “Book of Golden Deeds” for his work.

He was a family man, devoted to children and grandchildren.  Karl loved his daily visits to the Sports Mall, where he was a member for many, many years.  His camping trips are legendary.  He loved canoeing, swimming and moteling.

Karl wed Olive Rae Kendall in 1949 and they were married for 20 years.  Karl married Darlene Fossat November 24, 1972.  He is survived by his wife Darlene; their seven children Dr. Michel K. (Allison) Lowe, Ken G. (Gail) Lowe, Greg M. (Terese) Lowe, Richard B. (Anne) Lowe, Kathy Lowe (Chris Simmons), Kori (Jeff) Seely-Robinett and Michael J. Allred; 23 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren; and sister Norma (Ron) Molen.

Preceded in death by his parents and six siblings.

Friends may call upon the family at a wake on Thursday, May 5th from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City.  Graveside Service will be held on Friday, May 6th at 10:00 AM at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 1342 East 500 South.

Our deepest appreciation and love to the staff at St. Joseph’s Villa for their care and for making us part of their family through a very difficult time.  Their help was invaluable.

In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the American Cancer Society and take your grandchildren to the park.

One of the Greatest Men I've ever known, Karl "KG" Lowe, my Scoutmaster and Second Father has left this earthly life to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. May God Rest his soul as well as Bless and Comfort his family with loving kindness, and tender mercy through their time of grief. "KG" Lowe is an awesome man who will be sorely missed. He was truly a good man who made significant contributions to the lives of young men throughout our community. His legacy will live on in the hearts, minds and habits of the many that knew and loved him. God Bless

I wanted to express my condolences and love to Darlene and her family at this time. Karl was a great man whose legacy in his profession of pharmacy reaches out further than he would have known while here on this earth. He has touched, trained and earned the respect and love of all who have ever worked with him. I am sincerely thankful for having known such a great man.

Well Darlene and Kori, it has been a long time since we have had a chance to visit. I am very sorry for your loss, but I do have faith that Karl is in a good place. Karl was (and still is) a great person. I have many fond memories of visiting with him and learning from him in the early days of my Pharmacy Career. Karl is a person whom I had a great deal of respect for and I am blessed for having known him and for being able to count him as a friend.
