Katherine Lingos
December 31, 1931 - May 19, 2023
The family of Katherine Lingos mourn her loss after she peacefully passed away in her cherished home, lovingly referred to as her palace, on May 19, 2023. Born on December 31, 1931, in Astoria, New York, Katherine's journey took her from the bustling city streets to the tranquil landscapes of Crete, Greece, and eventually to the embrace of the Rocky Mountains.
Katherine's indomitable spirit and enduring love for her family defined her life. Shortly after her birth, she embarked on an adventure with her parents, setting sail for Crete, where she spent the better part of her childhood. During the dark days of the Nazi occupation, she bore witness to unspeakable atrocities, while also having to act as an adult during her childhood years to help take care of her family. Yet, her resilient soul managed to retain the beautiful memories and love she held for the island.
It was in Utah that Katherine met and married the love of her life, Angelo, who she always credited for liberating her from a life of hardship. They braved life's challenges, supporting one another with unwavering devotion. Together, they had three children- Michael, Mary Kay, and Angela. Angelo was a pillar of strength during Katherine's care for her beloved mother and children, sharing the weight of responsibility and offering solace during difficult times. Their love was an inspiration to all who knew them.
Katherine’s love for her children and her eight grandchildren was profound. She spent several years of her life caring for them in her home, making sure they were well fed and loved. She would frequently ask “Have you eaten?” because making sure they were all well fed was one of her highest priorities. Her passion for gardening and cooking transformed her home into a sanctuary of beauty and flavor. Her green thumb brought forth vibrant blooms and lush foliage, creating a serene haven for her family and friends. In her kitchen, she wove culinary magic, crafting Greek dishes that were not only delicious but a reflection of her love and nurturing nature. Her family eagerly gathered around the table, relishing every bite and cherishing the precious moments spent together.
Deeply rooted in her Greek heritage, Katherine's love and devotion extended beyond her family to the Greek Orthodox Church. She found solace and strength in her faith, attending services and actively participating in the church community. Her commitment to the church was a testament to her unwavering belief in the power of prayer and the comfort found in the presence of God.
Family was at the center of Katherine's universe, and she selflessly devoted herself to their well-being. Her unwavering love knew no bounds as she placed their needs above her own. Katherine's home, the palace she cherished, became a gathering place where loved ones sought comfort, guidance, and the warmth of her loving embrace.
Katherine Lingos is survived by her loving children- Michael (Alisa), Mary Kay (Jason), and Angela, and her eight grandchildren- Angelo, Nicholas, Elias (Natalia), Lexie, David, Dimitri, Anna and Laurisa. Their lives were enriched by her warmth, wisdom, and boundless love. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Angelo, her parents Mary And Nicholas, her brother George, and her son-in-law Jay.
In Cottonwood Heights, Utah, where Katherine's final days were spent, her absence will be deeply felt by her family and loved ones. The legacy she leaves behind is one of love, strength, and resilience. Her home, the palace she cherished, stands as a testament to the life she built with her beloved Angelo.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, May 24th at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 279 South 300 West, Salt Lake City. The viewing will be held at 10:00 AM followed by funeral services at 11:00 AM. In honor of Katherine's memory, her family kindly requests that donations be made to the Greek Orthodox Church as a tribute to her lifelong commitment to faith and caring for others. The family would also like to thank her wonderful caregiver Rachael, for the compassionate love and care she provided to Katherine. The impact of Katherine’s selflessness will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known her, forever preserving her spirit of love, compassion, and unwavering faith.

I'm very sorry for your loss. Your parents were so good to me and my son if it weren't for your mom I wouldn't have been able to raise my son at her rental unit. We would have been homeless without her kindness..In the early years she'd send us home with bread n vegetables when we wentto pay rent. She was indeed a Greek Godess. May you find comfort knowing she's with her husband again
