In Loving Memory

Kathy is a very important part of my life. She cared for me, believed in me, and loved me as well as my brother (Brandon) like we were her own children. Not only did she do this for us, but for so many others. Kathy always had a beautiful and sincere way of letting all know how much she cared. My memories of Kathy are pure joy and love. I am blessed that she was in my life! I will cherish our friendship and her love forever.

I am so sorry for your loss. Mrs Kimball taught me so much more than English at Kearns Jr. She taught me that a challenge was something to look forward to, not back away from. I learned more about life and success in her class than any other I have ever taken. She has a long legacy to show the world what one teacher with a love of teaching can do. RIP Mrs Kimball. I love you

I am sorry to hear of the 'graduation' of Kathy Starbuck. She taught 3 of my children at Jefferson Jr. High. They have been forever changed by her amazing teaching. What a great teacher. She truly cares about her students and they know it. My oldest daughter has a music education degree. My oldest son has a chemistry degree and my second son just graduated from medical school. All of them use writing skills and other things that they learned in Jr. High from Mrs. *$ . Thanks to a wonderful lady!!

Mrs Starbuck--you're an absolute legend! I'll never forget our classes in the Commons or how to diagram a sentence (it's "the Jazz is..." not "the Jazz are..." when discussing the basketball team). I'll make it a point to catch your Shakespeare lectures in heaven--until then, "I bite my thumb at you, good lady!" Thanks for being one of my very bestest rectors. I will never forget the times that she would sit at my desk and try to make me blush. She would read to the class and tease and have fun with the students. She made the class easy to attend. KATHRYN was my favorite teacher, I knew that she cared for her students and the students cared for and respected her. I know the Universe will accept her with open arms. She was my 9th grade teacher at Kearns Jr in 1971-72, and she had the most unique ways to make english a fun and edifying subject. I have the fondest memories of Mrs. Kimball/Starbuck. My sister was one of her students at Kearns Jr. High and 10 years later I had the honor of being one of her students, as well. I absolutely adored her. She instilled a lifelong love of books and learning in me. Because of Mrs. Starbuck, I will forever be a avid reader. My prayers go out to you, her family, at this time. Jr. high is a difficult stage, but Mrs. Starbuck made it better. She could dissolve the class into horrified giggles with (gasp!) naughty stories, or help us understand great literature. She also helped me to achieve some personal goals. I remember her so fondly and am sorry for your loss. ~ Leslie Rollins McEwan, Centerville, Utah

Mrs. Starbuck was an energetic, enthusiastic lover of learning & teaching. She took no crap from us junior high students! She was inspiring to me & many of my fellow classmates when we were blessed to have her as our teacher at Kearns Jr. High in the mid-1980's. She was unforgettable! Thank you to her family for sharing her with us. I am truly sorry to hear of her passing, however, I know Heaven will now be her classroom. Mrs. Starbuck was a great teacher. She helped me so much with writing even when it wasn't an assignment. We had a very small class the year I was in 9th grade. There were a handful of girls and her stepson Jim in our class. It was a great year. You were an inspiration. God bless her family and friends with peace and comfort.

For 43 years I have hardly had a day go by that I didn't thank my lucky stars for the opportunity to be taught in 9th Grade at Kearns Jr. High by Mrs. Kimball. Whenever I save a password, or they ask online for a security question, it is always "Who was your favorite teacher" and the answer is always, "Mrs. Kimball". I know that she went on to be Mrs. Starbuck, and became beloved to those that knew her as that name too. I walked around with a letter of gratitude in my heart for her all these years, so you can imagine my joy when I found her, in all places, on Facebook. I put the words from my heart in a message to her, and was so happy that I could finally say those things to her personally. She responded with a lovely note that meant the world to me. She said that she remembered me, and I'd like to think that she really did . . . Thank you, thank you for your life, your influence, and most of all, your Joie de vivre! You gave me myself, and taught me some English along the way. I love you.

I adored Mrs. *$! She was one of my favorite teachers. I loved how she would sing and play during class but also deliver a great lesson in english or journalism or life. She made her students feel so special. An engaged, enthusiastic, and committed teacher is a force for a young student's future. I am grateful to her for her dedication and love. I can only hope that my own kids will have the blessing of having a teacher like her someday.

Mrs. Starbuck was my English teacher 7th and 9th grade at Jefferson Jr. High. She never let me give up. She always pushed me to do my best. To give my all in everything I do. I was the long haired kid that one would imagine wouldn't care or wouldn't be too bright. She looked passed my outter appearance and saw potential in me. She saw potential in everyone! She was more than just a teacher. She was the good "adult" influence that teens need during those years. My sympathy goes out to her family and friends. K*$ will be missed, but never forgotten!

In 1957, Kathy was dating my brother at the same time that I was planning my wedding. We had become good friends, and I asked Kathy to be my bridesmaid. She was a beautiful bridesmaid as she was a beautiful person. What a great memory I have of her at that special occasion. Her accomplishments as an educator are to be admired and not forgotten. May I send my sincerest condolences to Kathy's family and also to her sister and my good friend Janean.

As a student at KJH many years ago, Kathy, (Mrs. Kimball), had a huge and lasting influence on my life. Although I did not have her as an English teacher for long, (she took a leave), she continued to be my year book advisor and I would spend weekends at her home. She opened the world to me in so many ways - her class, warmth, humor, - I could go on, had such an impact on me. I will never forget her and will always be grateful for her in my life.

I'm sitting here with my wife, and we're both lamenting the loss of this great lady. She taught both of us at Jefferson Junior High, and I was lucky enough to have her twice, both in 7th and 9th grade. She was influential to the point that we have continued to talk about her and her vivacious personality over the nine years of our marriage, and we're both so sad to have learned of her passing. I would have wanted her to know that I ended up becoming an English teacher myself, in no small part because of her influence, and always hoped I was as entertaining, fun, and inspirational to my students as she was to me. Goodbye Mrs. *$! We'll always remember you! Josh Weed and Laurel Shea
