Kathryn Herschberg
1/15/1936-11/1/2010
Our true love, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend is finally without pain. Kathy passed away peacefully at home on November 1, 2010 after a valiant battle with cancer.
She will be remembered fondly for her no-nonsense attitude and tellin’ it like it is!!
In addition to raising four children, Tim, John, Cindy and Matt, she was controller for several big businesses in California, including Purex Corporation Foreign Operations. In 1991 she moved to Park City, Utah where she & Tom opened the Owl’s Roost Bed & Breakfast. She soon got very involved in the community by joining Park City Ambassadors where she led them as their president and chaired/worked tirelessly on many July 4th parades and Snowflakers Balls.
Kathy was a member of Beta Sigma Phi for over 50 years and led chapters in California, Arizona, Nevada and Utah. She served as President of the Salt Lake City Council and was instrumental in founding several new chapters including most recently the Park City Chapter of Laureate Pi. She also chaired many State and Regional conventions. She was the recipient of the “International Award of Distinction” the highest honor given in Beta Sigma Phi and was very proud to be one of very few recipients.
Kathy and Tom are active members of St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church in Park City where Kathy was the lead Wedding Coordinator for many years. Also, Tom and Kathy were vested into the Equestrian Order of the Sepulchre of Holy Jerusalem Western USA Lieutenancy.
Kathy served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for Peace House Women’s Shelter in Park City. She took great pride in being the Chief of Track Marshalls at the Bobsled/Skeleton events during the 2002 Winter Olympics in Utah.
Kathy is survived by her husband of 55 years, Tom; her three sons Tim (Carol), John (Deanne) and Matthew; grandchildren Eric, Brenna and Ian, Chris; her sister Ruth (Sister in the Sisters of the Company of Mary); brother-in-law Jim; very special friend Jim Lawor; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter Cindy.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, November 4, 2010 at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church in Park City. Rosary will begin at 10:00 am and Funeral Mass following at 11:00 am.
The family would like to thank Intermountain Homecare Hospice, especially Audrey and Yuliya for the wonderful care they gave Kathy in her final days.
Donations can be made in Kathy’s memory to the Park City Relay for Life.

My sincere condolences to your loss of Kathryn. She helped me during several Park City elections serving as an Election Judge and this service was invaluable. I enjoyed getting to know her during the election time and she was so nice, interesting, witty, and helpful to the voters, me, and her fellow election judges. I grieve for her and send you my love and deepest sympathies.

Tom, I was deeply saddened to learn of Kathy's death and felt bad that I was unable to attend her funeral mass on Thursday. Kathy was a very special sister and I feel honored to have known her and worked with her in Beta Sigma Phi. My condolenses and prayers are with you and your family during this time of sadness.
