Kathryn Poe Commander

January 22, 1959 - July 18, 2021

Kathryn passed away on July 18th, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. She passed peacefully in her home, surrounded by family.

Kathy was born on January 22nd, 1959 in Tucson, Arizona to Richard and Dorie Poe. She was best known as a beloved hairstylist and salon owner. She was also happily married to Bob Commander, her partner in love and adventure for 15 years.

She is survived by her husband and three daughters, Jachelle Overstreet, Samantha Olsen, and Gabrielle Olsen. Her two brothers, James and Randy Poe, and her mother, Dorie Poe.

Along with a deep love for her family, friends, and animals, Kathy had a passion for outdoor sports. She was an avid rock climber and skier. Never far from the water, she had a special love of sailing, windsurfing, and wakeboarding.

She had a unique connection to nature and animals and was always happiest when surrounded by them. Whether she was camping or enjoying a glass of wine in her backyard, it was where she felt most herself.

Kathy was the embodiment of kindness, humor, and generosity. She was unapologetically alive and preferred to spend her time laughing, dancing, and spreading joy to everyone in her life. That is her legacy. Her loss is immeasurable, but so is the love she leaves behind.

Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Kathy's life on Friday, July 30th, 2021 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City.

In Loving Memory

Bob and family, we are so deeply sorry for your loss.  We only met Kathy once but we saw the love and passion she had for life.  She was in Kauai w/ Bob and having fun on the beach.  It was clear she was very hapy in love.   We hope you know your family is loved and we are praying for you.   Love, Joey and Mindy Hobson

Bob and Girls,   We're so sorry for your loss.  Kathy was an amazing person and beautiful soul.   We received the news of Kathy passing while visiting Flaming Gorge.  So many great memories with Kathy and the family at the Gorge.  Loved watching her water ski and being so scared of going outside the wake.   One of the nicest people I ever met.  I'm glad I had the privilege of calling her Aunt Kathy.  I'm going to miss her beautiful smile. You're in our thoughts and Prayers. With Sympathy, Ryan and Lisa

Bob, Jimmy and girls  We are so sorry for your loss. This world has lost an amazing soul but heaven has gained a beautiful angel. She always talked about the love she had for her girls and was so proud of them. When you see a rainbow, feel a raindrop and see the first bloom of a flower you will always know that Kathy is right there beside you reminding you she is not far away. My dear friend Bob and beautiful girls,      My heart is with all of you as you try to be strong with the tremendous loss of your beautiful wife , best friend and mother. I feel so very very lucky that I have been able to have Kathy as a person that I can truly say was one of the dearest people in my life. I shut my eyes and I can see her beautiful face thrown back in the most delightful laughter. She was a friend to everyone and was the most caring person I have ever known. I loved her so dearly. I know she is flying free now and filled with the lightness she shared with us on earth. Melba Underbrink

Jim, Bob I only met Kathy a few times, but her courage, strength and deep love of the mountain will always stay with me. I was lucky to spend a few days enjoying skiing with her and just having an absolute blast. I often go to those memories. My deepest condolences.
