Kelly C. Nesi

1928 – 2009

Kelly C. Nesi passed away at home, surrounded by his family, on March 7th, due to complications from Diabetes.  He was born on October 13th, 1928, to Joseph Nesi and Carmela Comparato in Salt Lake City, Utah.  On August 7th, 1948, he married his sweetheart, Esther Pietramala.  They have four children Joseph Nesi, Cherylann Miller, Judy Cochran and Kelly Eldridge.

Kelly always considered himself a lucky man for having two sets of parents, brothers and sisters.  When Kelly was six years old, both his parents passed away, leaving him, a younger brother and sister alone.  Teresa and Dominic Colonno, Kelly’s older sister and brother-in-law, took the children in and raised them as their own.

Kelly worked for the Western Pacific Railroad and the Union Pacific for 39 years.  He started as a fireman and worked his way up to an engineer.  Kelly took and early retirement in 1988 due to his diabetic condition.  He was a hard working man, always putting his family first, making sure they were always well taken care of.

Kelly was a jack of all trades and could build or repair anything.  If you could design it, Kelly could find a way to engineer it and build it.  He was also an avid gardener and wood worker.  The cabin he and Esther built in the Uintas was his pride and joy.  Kelly loved his dogs and you could always find them sitting in his lap very contented with each others company.

He is survived by his wife Esther; son Joseph (Linda) Nesi; daughters Cherylann (Mike) Miller, Judy (James) Cochran, Kelly Jean (Daniel) Eldridge; 13 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents; brothers Frank, Angelo; sisters Teresa, Josephine and Sarah Jo Nesi; and granddaughter and our special angel.

Viewing and Rosary will be held on Wednesday, March 11th from 6 to 8 PM at St. Ann Catholic Church, 450 East 2100 South, Salt Lake City.  Holy Rosary to begin at 7:00 PM.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 12th at 11:00 AM also at St. Ann Catholic Church.  Interment to follow at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 4th Ave. and “T” Street, Salt Lake City.

Dear Esther and familly, I want to take this opportunity to express my deepest sympathy to all of you. I know that your entire family has been very close knit and there will be a hole in that earthly fabric now. However, my prayers are with Kelly and with the entire family as you suffer through this loss. Be assured that while we cannot be with you all in Utah, we will always be there for Kelly Jean and Dan after they get back to North Dakota. Love, Fred & Rose Mary
