Kenneth Alexander Woods
My Sweetheart, Ken

Our loving husband, father and grandfather passed away on January 9, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born on February 21, 1930 in Salt Lake City, UT to Ruth Alexander and William Dewey Woods. Ken married his sweetheart Nissia Batt on August 9, 1949, and together, they had an amazing life and love. He was the owner of Dewey Woods Car Company for over 40 years. He served in the Salt Lake City Police Department Reserve for 14 years. Ken lived life the way he wanted to live it. He loved cars, boats, airplanes, motorcycles, guns and had a need for speed. He loved all animals, especially his dogs, his rabbit and his horse, Midnight. And, especially, he loved his family.

In addition to his wife of 63 years, he is survived by his children Kenny (Kendra), Christine, David (Reyna), Leslie; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister Phyllis (Dutch) Stowe.

Preceded in death by daughter Susan A. Woods; grandson Adam James Woods; and sister Ruthie Walker.

A wake and viewing will be held on Tuesday, January 15th from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, January 16th at 1:00 PM, also at Starks Funeral Parlor. Inurnment to follow at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 South Highland Drive.

The family extends a special thanks to the staff at Alpha Hospice, especially Char, Cindy and Julie. Also, to his grandchildren Jennifer, Michelle, Brent, Davey and Georgie for their tender care.

Dear Woods family, I 1st met Ken while serving as a SLCPD Reserve, & then hiring on full time with SLCPD 11 months later... I was very proud of that "R" on my police shoulder patch. Often times, Ken (THE VETERAN RESERVE!) would ride with me, the lowly new, full time Rookie) while patroling the west side of S.L.C., after the sun had set. We were productive & some times even caught criminals doing their bad deeds around your families car lot.-:)... We had many memroable conversations. I was excited to move onto the SOLO MOTOR SQUAD, where we would ride in pairs at night, but often missed the enjoyment of having members of our Reserves riding with me. When my MOTOR partner wasn't avaliabel, i would contact Ken & he would come in & work w/me... Later in time, while conducting Detective work, I would stop at the car lo & have enjoyable visits w/Ken & his sons... After retiring from SLCPD to take a Chiefs job at what is now "Utah Valley University" PD, in Orem, unfortunately Ken & I kind of lost touch. except for the occational phone call... Our association & talks throughout the years made a positive influence on my life. Thanks Ken ! ! !.....Respectfully, Ron Greenleaf. (I'm in the phone book if you wish to call.)
