Kenneth R. Klise

December 25, 1924 - September 16, 2021

Kenneth Russell Klise died peacefully on Thursday, September 16, 2021 of causes incident to age.  His was a long life of gratitude, love of family and determination.  Always available to lend a hand or support those he loved in any way, he had a lasting impact on all who knew and loved him.

Born December 25, 1924, in Spokane, Washington to Russell and Jean Klise, he was one of six children, five sons and one daughter.  All learned to work hard and support each other in their early years.  Following high school, Ken enlisted and served his country during World War ll.  As paratrooper in the US Army 18th Airborne, he spent his active military years in Europe.  Upon his return, he studied electrical engineering at Gonzaga University, earning his degree in 1949.  Ken had the mind of an engineer.  He could build and repair anything and enjoyed tinkering in a garage workshop full of tools.

Ken began a long and successful career with Graybar Electric, holding many positions in multiple western states.  He retired as District Manager following 36 years with the company.  In subsequent years, he enjoyed many of the friendships formed with colleagues and customers.

In 1943, while serving in the Army, Ken married Susan M. Maggard.  Together they had a daughter, Linda and a son, Ken.  Years of happy family life included moves to several new cities and the activities of a busy family.

In 1979, Ken married Marian R. O’Leary, combining their two families.  They enjoyed many years together as involved and active parents and grandparents.  They placed family first and created a loving home for all.  As a grandfather, Ken had patience and time, two valuable qualities.  After school and weekends were filled by adventures big and small with young grandchildren.

Ken was an avid golfer and a devoted fan of opera.  He was a proud WWll veteran and traveled with Utah Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in 2014.  The gratitude and appreciation shown to the veterans was fantastic and more than expected.  It was an experience that Ken treasured.

The family expresses appreciation to the many medical providers and caregivers who provided excellent care for Ken.  Special thanks to the staffs of the Ridge Foothill, St. Joseph’s Villa and the William E. Christoffersen Salt Lake Veterans Home for their skill and compassionate care.  Even as his health declined, Ken was grateful for your kindness.

Preceded in death by wife Susan Klise: wife Marian Klise; brothers Cecil, Jerry, and Bill; sister Naomi; son Ken Klise Jr.; and step-daughter-in-law Wendy Brodbeck.
