Kevin James Hunt
April 6, 1953 - August 24, 2026
Kevin James Hunt, 73, of Stansbury Park, Utah, passed away comfortably at home on August 24, 2026, after a hard-fought, 17-year knock-down, drag-out battle with Cancer.
Kevin was born and raised in Kearns, Utah, to John and Jean Hunt. At six foot five he excelled in baseball, football, and basketball throughout high school. His talent on the field earned him a scholarship playing football for the University of Utah, where he was a standout player.
Kevin had a sharp mind for geometry and mathematics, a gift he carried straight into his professional life. Kevin was self-made and ambitious and partnered to form New Concepts Construction which has operated in Utah since 1984. Over the years he built a career developing residential neighborhoods, car dealerships, along with countless commercial remodels. Above all, Kevin’s professional ethos centered on the people who worked for him. He felt a deep responsibility to keep their lights on, and food on their tables, and he carried that sense of duty throughout his career. Kevin quietly helped those in need throughout his life, including providing Christmas for children and families who otherwise may have gone without.
Outside of work, Kevin was a devoted history buff, the kind who could tell you not just about a notable war or battle but the makes of the planes, the equipment used and troop sizes. He was an outdoorsman through and through: an accomplished fly fisherman, a trapper, a bow hunter, and a big game hunter. Kevin was a skilled marksman and connoisseur of firearms.
Kevin was a big man, imposing, and drew people’s attention the moment he walked into a room. From the start, he met his equal in Lauren. They were married for thirty-nine years and liked to say they “took turns being boss” the only trouble was they both thought it was always their turn. They worked side by side, both professionally and at home, and raised a blended family together. They weathered the loss of their own little ones together, and traveled the world as partners, hunting together across the United States, New Caledonia, Africa, Pevurnatook, Argentina, Spain, and New Zealand to name a few.
Kevin was smart, witty and could always turn a phrase. You could count on him to turn an otherwise mundane moment into something equally shocking and hysterical.
Despite Kevin’s tough exterior he appreciated the smile of a child, the richness of soil, the reward of a good day’s work, the quiet of the forest and warmth of a fire.
Kevin is preceded in death by his parents, John and Jean Hunt, Mae Barrows, brothers Mike and Darrin, Granddaughter Ahmra and two infants.
Kevin is a loving husband to Lauren, brother to John, Marsha and Carrie, proud Father of Holly (Sondi), Bart (JoAnne), Andreana (Jake), and Steve (Shanna) and a loved and revered “Pops” to Auburn, Kason, Olivia, Matasia, Sylas, Kaden, Makz, and Kyler and ten Great grands and had a sweet bond with in-laws Robin, Mike, and Jessica Lami.
Kevin will be remembered as a fierce competitor, a skilled builder, a lifelong learner, and a man deeply at home in the outdoors. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, quiet expertise, and love for his family. In his own words “Died trying”.
Kevin’s celebration of life will be held at Starks Funeral Parlor at 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City Utah on September 17th, 2026 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Guests are encouraged to use the parking and entrance on the north side of the building. Remarks will begin at 7:30 p.m.
The family would like to thank his friends who so diligently allowed him to keep his dignity over a cup of coffee, short adventures, and good conversation. They would also like to thank his doctor and friend, Dev Abraham, for his excellent council and care as well as everyone Kevin encountered from Huntsman Cancer Institute…except for that one guy who shaved his chest hair off for a neck surgery.
In Loving Memory
