Kris 'Krisoula' Takas
November 20, 1927 - January 25, 2024
Kris “Krisoula” Takas passed away in her home from natural causes on Thursday, January 25, 2024; she was 102. Born to Marinos and Theodora Giannopoulos in Svoleika, Arcadia, Greece, she came to the United States and like many other Greek immigrant women at the time worked as a seamstress at the Pyke Manufacturing Company for many years. She married Sam Takas in 1957, and the pair were together until Sam’s death in 2011.
Kris was a great cook, baker, and gardener, and was loved by her many nieces, nephews and friends. She showed her love for her relatives and friends by showering them with fresh baked goods, particularly bread and cookies. Not a day passed where someone was not enjoying their morning coffee with one of Kris’s “moustokouloura.” For years Kris also hosted the annual Anastasi dinner for her friends and family, where they would eat, drink, and celebrating Christ’s resurrection until dawn the next morning.
Kris was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Philoptochos Society, Daughters of Penelope, and Arcadian Association. She is survived by her brother Ted, and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband Sam, her brothers John, George, Gus, and her sister Alexandra.
Kris will be missed by everyone who loved her. Kalo Paradiso Theia.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, January 31 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 279 South 300 West at 11:00 a.m. A viewing and Trisagion will occur the same day at the church from 10-11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Kris’ memory to the church.
In Loving Memory
To all those who know and love our Beloved "Krisoula", The obituary says it very well. For me, Krisoula was master baker, master chef, master gardener, loving aunt, and much more. I recently found old 8mm movies from the late 50s - early 60s. Krisoula was on many of them, and brought me back to those days when she would watch my brothers and me and my cousins at her house. The group of children was quite a handful, and she took great care of all of us. She was a great friend to my Mom. She helped my Mom (her first cousin) when my Dad died in 1966 immensely. She took loving care of her husband "Uncle Sam." Her Anastasi dinner was incredible. Her garden was unbelievable. I am a gardener and learned so much from her. I would spend Saturdays at her house, mowing her lawn, and then watch the baseball "Game of The Week" with Uncle Sam and always left with a full stomach and some Greek pastries and bread to take home. To Ted her brother and my beloved uncle, I am so sorry. Thank you Ted, Tasia, Mario, John, Charissa, Amalia, Deona, and Despina for taking such good care of her in the years after Uncle Sam passed. By the grace of Our Loving God, I am in Salt Lake City to be with you during this time. Her memory will be eternal with me. Her Loving Nephew, Ted Forsman
