Kylie “Ky” Kaplanis
September 17, 1994 - January 20, 2022
“Do you need a hug?”
Kylie peacefully passed away January 20, 2022 at the age of 27 surrounded by her loved ones after a brave battle with a terminal illness.
Born in Salt Lake City on September 17, 1994 to her beautiful mother Tammy and biological father Kenny. While attending high school at Summit Academy, she joined the dance company and graduated in 2013. Kylie was a free spirit and danced to the beat of her own drum by doing what she wanted, when she wanted and how she wanted. She moved to Chicago to start a new journey and lived there for a year in a half before moving on to San Francisco that she loved so much and found joy working as a barista. Kylie made her way back to Salt Lake to start her newest journey filled with family, friends, a new job and loving life to its fullest. Her natural beautiful self, found a strong love and passion for makeup, hair and skin care. She was a sunflower to this world bringing happiness to those around her. We will miss her funny humor, blue eyes, cute dimples and beautiful smile.
Kylie leaves behind her fur baby Baylee; mother Tammy; adoptive father Gerry; sister Brittany (Chris); brothers Josh (Gayle) and Mike (Marissa); amazing nephews Eli and Gabe; cutest nieces Eleonor and Braeya. Special thanks to Solstice and Namaste Hospice, Alisa, April and others who have shown Kylie that family doesn’t always have to be blood. Kylie, you will be missed greatly, always loved and never forgotten.
Friends are invited to celebrate Ky's life on Wednesday, January 26 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 27 at 11:00 AM, also at Starks Funeral Parlor, where friends may view one hour prior to the service. Thursday's funeral may be livestreamed by returning to this site where a “Watch Service Live” button will appear prior to service. Services will be posted later on this site for all to watch on demand.

This is not goodbye, it is only a short farewell. We will see you on the other side. It was an honor and a privilege to be in the presence of Kylie. Once her beautiful blue eyes invited you into her life you could feel her strength and courage. Talk to her briefly and you could feel the warmth of her loyal generosity, kindness and loving spirit. Listen to her and you laughed with her and enjoyed her sense of humor. She will be missed dearly here on earth, but we know she is a Free spirit in the heavens and when we least expect it she will appear in ways that allow us to say… I know that was you Kylie. May her beauty continue to surround us, may she continue to live in our hearts and in our memories forever. Until we meet again, may God hold her in the palm of his hands. Our deepest sympathy to Tammy and the family for this great loss. Sending Big Hugs your way. Love you more.

Tammy and Gerry, I am so proud of both of you and your loving family, you gave Ky everything on this earth to make her dreams come true. You are all angels. Now she can pass on to the other angels so that she can walk without suffering. I know she is smiling down on all of us, saying "it's only an earthly body, I'm still here and I'm free." See you in the future, beautiful girl.

Dear Tammy and Gerry, I'm sorry we couldn't be there due to this darn Covid thing going around our family right now, but we wanted to let you know how sorry we are to hear about Kylie. Every time we would see Ky at family events, or facebook pictures, etc... we would always see the biggest smile despite the physical disabilities and pain that she must have been feeling. She was an example to all of us on how to shine through the clouds and obsticals of life. As parents, both of you are examples of the love, caring, and support we should all give our children. We have seen through Kylie's smiles the selfless Love and comfort she felt from both of you. Thank you for being the wonderful spirits you both are. Please know that you both and your kids are in our prayers and hearts, and that we love you all. Love, Steve and Kate Johnson
