Denise peacefully passed on November 26, 2013.She was born November 29, 1951 in Salt Lake City, UT to Clata "Nana" and Loy "Fat" Smith. She had a passion for the medical field and helping others and earned her medical assisting certificate. Denise was the head phlebotomist at the U and also managed their outpatient lab. She went on to work in various positions at ARUP. Denise married her Granite High School sweetheart Richard H. Hansen on September 16, 1972. After years of trying, Denise was blessed with her only child, a daughter BreAnne. Denise loved camping, reading, painting and she crocheted like a madwoman. Denise was an excellent cook and was famous for her english toffee. QVC was her best friend. In her later years, Denise loved going for long car rides. The last five years of her life were consumed by being Grammy to Olivia Joy, who became her world. She was a mother to all and will be dearly missed.
She leaves behind her husband of 41 years; daughter BreAnne (Justin); granddaughter Olivia Joy; sister Tonya; special nephew to whom Denise was very devoted to raising, Ryan (Mindi) and their children Sophie and Liam; and brother Karl (Georgia).
She was preceded in death by her parents, her older sister Darlene and her brother-in-law Bobby.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, December 2nd from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, December 3rd at 1:00 PM at Holladay Memorial Park, 4900 Memory Lane, Holladay.

My sister and I wanted to come by and see you all last evening at the celebration for Denise, but we were unable to make it. You're in our thoughts and prayers. Denise will be greatly missed.
