Lacy James Scott
December 16, 1941 - December 16, 2020
Our beloved father, husband and friend, Lacy James Scott (Scottie), passed away from cancer on his birthday, surrounded by the family he loved and who loved him.
He was born in Radford, VA to Lacy Luelin Scott and Gladys Lula Wright Scott who preceded him in death. He was raised in Sparta, NC. He is survived by: his wife, Marilyn Gloria Divino Scott; his children: Chris Scott (Dolores), James Scott, Ginny Booth (Mike), Marie Rodrigues (Jim), and Lacey Weibel (Trent); 13 grandchildren; Chantell Ferrin (Kory), Ashley Seawright (Tyler), Kaitlyn Ozaine (Jon), David Scott (Josie), Jared Scott (Leighna), Trisha Pena-Lopez (Jaime), Jeremy Booth, Eric Rodrigues (Angelique), Aaron Scott, Hunter Scott, Emily Rodrigues, Andrew Rodrigues, and Charlie Fauci; six great-grandchildren; and siblings Milton Scott; Margie Fagan (Larry) and Edward Scott (Carol).
Lacy had a whirlwind romance with his wife whom he met at Hill Air Force Base, UT. They married on July 20, 1963 and enjoyed 57 years together. Lacy was an Air Defense Photographer during the Vietnam War. They moved back to North Carolina after his service and his jobs included farm work and meat cutting. In 1967, they moved back to SLC, UT where he worked in many trades to provide his family a stable and wonderful home. Lacy, Marilyn and family loved to travel, and they made 25 trips across county by motorhome back to North Carolina to visit family. Camping, hunting, fishing and boating were abundant and precious memories. We’ll remember see him in a camping chair with his beloved dogs outside of his RV with a fresh cup of coffee in the morning. As a devout man of faith, he would often express that, besides being at his parish, St. Francis Xavier, he felt closer to God when out in nature.
Fond memories of Lacy included his fishing hat, watered down Folgers Coffee, flannel shirts, Big Macs, Reese’s peanut butter cups, cashews, Oatmeal Crème pies, pinto beans and cornbread, a blue Jeep Cherokee and sly looks during the sound of 6 rolling die. Things that seem worthless but are priceless all because he made them so special. We will miss the sound of his voice that is weaved into all our happiest memories. Lacy Scott was an incredible man and more. His loss is heartbreaking, and we hope he is held safe in heaven until we can him meet again.
A viewing for Lacy will be Monday, December 21, 2020 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. To ensure compliance with current social distancing guidelines, we kindly ask that you call the funeral parlor at (801) 474-9119 to make a reservation between the hours of 10:00 am and 4:00 pm Monday through Saturday. The courtesy of wearing a mask to services is required. Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, Deceber 22, 2020 at 11:00 am at St. Francis Xavier, 4501 West 5215 South, Kearns. For those who wish to attend virtually the service will be livestreamed. Your welcome to visit this page and click the “Watch Service Live” button moments before Mass begins. Lacy will be laid to rest at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Marilyn, Peach and I are so sorry to hear about Scottie. We always loved stopping to talk with him when he was out in the yard. We've been neighbors for years and he will be missed. Anything Peach and I can do to help you, please let us know.
