Lawrence L. Gough

8/3/1928 – 4/24/2012

Lawrence (Laury) Lane Gough, 83, passed away in his home on April 24, 2012.  Lawrence was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on August 3, 1928 to Mary Crookston Gough & James L. Gough.  He graduated from East High School and attended the University of Utah.

Laury served in the Air Force during the Korean conflict and was a crew chief on a P-51.  Laury married Donna Mae Shaw on April 14, 1950 in Salt Lake City.  They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in San Francisco, the site of their honeymoon.

He retired from Mountain Bell in 1983 after 35 years.  He made many friends at the telephone company and stayed in contact with several of them.  After his retirement, he chose to work at Ace Disposal.  He was in charge of sales and collections and was loved by many.  He retired from Ace after twelve years.

Laury cherished the friends he made in high school and maintained a close relationship with many of them.  His greatest joy though was his family.  This included 3 children, their spouses, 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.  He loved spending time with them and treasured every moment.  He considered his wife, Donna his best friend.

One of his greatest joys were the fishing trips he took with his son Dave especially those in British Columbia.  Laury loved the outdoors.  He was an accomplished golfer and avid fisherman.  He also had a great knack for story telling as many of us can attest.

He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.  He will be missed by all his family and friends.  Laury was a lifelong member of the LDS Church.

Laury is survived by his children Debra (Stephen) Gough-Taylor, Cynthia (Lonnie) Stalsberg, and David (Lisa) Gough; six grandchildren Matt, Dustin, Justin, Kate, Kris, and Alex; seven great-grandchildren Laila, Sam, Hyrum, Nolan, Kate, Ben, and Konnor; sisters Evelyn (Don) Anderson, and Mary Tadje.  Preceded in death by his parents; his wife Donna; his brother James, and Sisters; Jean and Amy.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 28th at 1:30 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 S 900 E., SLC. Friends and family may call from 12 to 1 PM.  Interment will be held at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park; 3401 S Highland Drive, S.L.C.  A celebration of his life will be held for friends and family on Friday from 6 to 8 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor.

At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, please donate to the Make a Wish foundation in Laury’s honor.

In Loving Memory

Both myself and my husband (Dick ) had the privilege of getting to work with Laury when he was an outside foreman at Ma Bell. What fun he was. Please accept my condolences to a great person and friend. Nancy Curtis

Since you've already shown him your coeoclnndes on the phone and via text the card isn't really necessary.A nice gesture (since you've already gotten the card) would be to address it to his immediate family.Just have the dinner and go on like nothing. I'm sure he will appreciate the distraction. Besides, he'll have more time be sad, and to say goodbye with his family on Christmas Eve at the services. Also, just be supportive and comforting if he wants to talk about it or is still a bit out of it/sad.Good luck!
