Layne Mathew Jones

March 2, 1957 - October 24, 2024

Layne was a GEM of a man. He enjoyed the finer things in life, mostly his husband of ten years Scott Richins. He loved antiques, fine china, crystal, jewelry and great food; but he preferred it at a well-set table. He had many friends who he loved dearly and all will miss him terribly, especially his big deep laugh.

He is survived by his husband, Scott Richins; brothers Todd (Melanie) Jones, Scott (Janene) Jones, Corey Jones; sister-in-law Michele (David Tubbs) Richins; brother-in-law Randy Richins; several nieces and nephews; and his “Beaver Coat.”

A celebration of Layne will be held on Saturday, December 7th from 4:00 until 6:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City, UT. Guests are encouraged to park and enter on the north side of the building.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Crossroads Urban Center.

In Loving Memory

Dear Jones Family, I am saddened to hear of Layne's passing. I worked with both Layne and Corey so many years ago at the phone company. I have always thought very highly of the Jones Men. I offer my heartfelt condolences.

So sorry to hear of Layne's passing and condolences to Scott and his family. We have been friends for over 45 years and had many good times together. We'll miss his wit and infectious laugh, his knowledge of antiques, especially jewelry, and the ever interesting stories he told. May he rest in peace and be with the ones he loves. Dearest Scott we are very sad to hear of this great loss. It does not seem so long ago, I looked forward to talking to the two of you in gardening club, your smiles and conversation banter would always brighten and make my day. We will miss his great sense of humor and fast wit. We miss not being able to give you a big hug Scott. Our condolences to you, your family and friends. You are loved, Dean Anesi and Bob Parker

Scott and Layne's family, Gary and I are saddened by Layne's death, he was always so outgoing, positive and interesting to be around. We have known Layne for over 40 years, most recently through FB and many encounters at various estate sales. We will miss his smile and pleasing personality. He was a fine gentleman. Unfortunately, we are unable to attend his Celebration of Life but, we will be there in spirit and keep him and you in our thoughts. May his memory be eternal.

My consolation is not enough! Layne not onky taught me to love vintage jewels, he taught me about them which is where our friendship bloomed! He will certainly be missed, but remembered with a smile 😊
