Leandro “Jay” Garcia

February 27, 1970 - September 20, 2024

It is with great sadness the family of Leandro “Jay” Garcia announce his passing September 20, 2024. At the age of 54.

He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Rose Mary “Caila” Garcia.

He was raised in West Jordan along with his two sisters by his maternal grandparents where he gained his deep love and appreciation for the Mexican culture. He had a deep love for his grandparents and was proud to be a Mexican.

He loved to sing and dance. So often he would bellow out a loud “grito” and scare the heck out of everyone. Nobody knew it was coming because he’d have on his headphones lost in music. He would just smile and laugh. When he danced, he’d lose himself in the rhythm, not a care in the world. We all loved watching him move his shoulders and swing around the floor to a Ranchera or Banda song.

Keeping true to Mexican tradition, he’d give everyone a nickname. They didn’t just get a common one like Gordo, Pelon, or Gueda. They got Tilly Willy, Tinkie Winkie, Guch, or whatever struck him as fitting.

He treasured his family above all. He was loving, kind, accepting, and generous to a fault. He had a special bond with his mother who was a constant presence in his life.

Leandro leaves behind his children: Alexandra Garcia, Anthony Garcia, Alicia Garcia, Miaa (Skyler) Maestas, Amanda Garcia, 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, sisters; Rebecca (Jeff) Huntsman, Margot (Luis) Cardenas, many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Preceded in death by his mother Rose Mary Garcia, Grandparents Francisco and Rosemary Jimenez, uncles John Renteria, Korla Woods, and niece Vanessa Huntsman.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church on Monday September 30, 2024 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Nos vemos de nuevo un día cuando crucemos el puente de caléndula.
