Lee Tillman Stowbridge
March 26, 1943 - February 9, 2022
On Wednesday February 9, 2022, Lee Stowbridge, loving father of Nicole Terrell (38), Thomas Stowbridge (39), and Patrick Stowbridge (deceased) passed away just a few weeks short of his 79th birthday.
Lee was born on March 26, 1943 to Nellie and Robert Stowbridge in Rahway, NJ and grew up in Roselle Park, NJ. He worked as Sports Editor for over 20 years at the Daily News in New York, and met Judy Coble through mutual friends and he and Judy were married on December 7, 1964. In the early 1980’s Lee and Judy moved to Colorado, called by the beauty of the mountains and a dream for an exciting new chapter. He spent several years as senior contributor to Associated Features where he edited and produced sports magazines and books.
Over the next 10 years, they adopted 3 children, Patrick, Tom and Nicole with the vision of starting a family and changing the lives of the children they brought into their home. Judy was diagnosed with cancer during all of this and left this world in June of 1992, leaving Lee to raise the kids as a widowed father.
Lee had a passion for travel and experiences, and over the years, many unforgettable memories were created through road trips across the country with his kids, and later, his granddaughter, Lily Stowbridge (20). Lee was also the loving grandfather to Jesse Frommel (16) and Pharris Terrell (5). Lee had proudly been to 49 states (only missing Alaska) and over 100 baseball parks. Professionally, Lee finished his remaining years in work doing personal care work with a dear family.
He will be missed for his sense of humor, always delighting in opportunities to laugh, for his enthusiasm for life, never wanting to miss anything, and for his adoring commitment to staying up to date with current topics that mattered to his grandkids, so that he could have the joy of sharing in what they loved.
Always one to enjoy a celebration, Lee had requested a casual gathering of loved ones in his passing, to celebrate his life and share memories, so on Saturday March 26, 2022 (Lee’s birthday) we will have an intimate gathering in his honor to reminisce about all that Lee meant to us. The location is to be determined.
All are welcome, and if you would like to be there, please contact Nicole Terrell at nicolemarieterrell@gmail.com.
