Leonard Venable Lacey
March 30, 1922 - September 11, 2013
Leonard, 91, passed away Wednesday, September 11th from complications due to a fall. Born in Bartow County, Georgia on March 30, 1922.
Leonard had a very full life for a shy farm boy. He left home at 17 to join the Civilian Conservation Care (CCC). From there he learned a trade in sheet metal work. After Pearl Harbor, he joined the Navy as a radar operator. Leonard served in both the Pacific and Atlantic fronts. He met his wife, Patricia, in Pensacola, Florida. They were married in 1944. Together they had five children, eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
After he retired from a career in the US Postal Service, Leonard returned to his roots in Adairsville, Georgia where he and Patricia enjoyed gardening, square dancing, traveling and service to their community. He moved to Salt Lake City in 2007.
He is survived by sons Lerry (Cindy), Lee (Vanessa); daughters Joann (Bob) Henzey, Jackie (Patrick) Swigart; and sister Joyce (Earl) Culberson. Preceded in death by his beloved wife Patricia; daughter Joyce; and grandson Zenrick.
A visitation will be held on Friday, September 13th from 6:00-8:00 PM at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 4914 South 2200 West, Taylorsville, where recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7:00 PM. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 14th at noon also at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church.
