Linda Marie Nesi

August 17, 1948 - July 23, 2019

Our beloved wife, mother, sister and grandmother, Linda Marie Nesi, passed away doing what she loved – traveling the world – on July 23rd, 2019 at the age of 70 with her husband Joseph Nesi by her side.
She was born August 17, 1948 in Santa Monica California to Del M. and Mary V. Carbiener. Although she was a California girl at heart, she moved to Salt Lake City in 1968 with her family where she married her first husband Dennis Witbeck and had 3 wonderful sons. Several years later she pursued a degree in the field of education where she received her teaching degree from the University of Utah; she became a member of the Golden Key Society and graduated Cum Laude. Linda’s zest for life took her on many adventures, one of which was meeting and marrying the love of her life – her “ renaissance man” -Joseph Nesi in 1990. With the support and encouragement of Joseph, she later continued on to receive her Masters degree from Utah State University. Throughout her 24 year teaching career she not only influenced many children for good, she was recognized and honored with several teaching awards including the Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. Linda was an active member in the St. Olaf Catholic Parish where she served in many capacities including on the Parish Council and in the Ladies of Charity. She was an avid reader, die-hard democrat, sports fanatic, and this Italian mama could really cook it up in the kitchen. Linda and Joe's love for their families and each other created a beautiful life.
Linda is preceded in death by her parents and step daughter Sarah Nesi. She is survived by her husband Joseph Nesi, their children and their spouses – Neal (Melanie), Matthew (Karina), Alan (Julie,) Anne (Michael), Rebecca, Jessica (Leonard), Mary and Joseph; 8 grandchildren – Amanda (Dave), Grace, Alina, Summer, Jillian, Trinity, Timothy, Emily; 2 Great Grandchildren – Evelyn and Jaina; and her brother Greg and his family. A viewing will be held Tuesday, July 30, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor 3651 South 900 East in Salt Lake City. The Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at 11:30 AM at St. Olaf’s Catholic Church, directly followed by a graveside interment at Bountiful City Cemetery, 2224 South 200 West. I am so sorry for your loss. Mrs. Nesi was an amazing teacher. She helped me to take my learning past understanding what ‘is’ and discover what ‘could be.’ Her love of science and learning were a great gift to all the students who had the opportunity to be in her class. I am grateful to have been one of them. My thoughts and prayers will be with your family.

My heart is heavy with love and sorrow, with the loss of Linda. Linda is part of my earliest memories and one of my cherished Springhill Drive mothers. My condolences to all that knew and loved Linda.

Dear Joe and family, I want you to know how sorry I and my boys Wade & Brett are with the passing of Linda. Brett and Alan became good friends and Linda taught me to put cinnamon in my coffee. Springhill as you know became a family of it's own and we feel as though we have lost a family member. Love you all .

Oh how I love my friend, Linda! We taught school side by side, we went to graduate school side by side and taught at the university level, side by side. She was a constant motivating force for good. Her zeal to always make something better drove her/us forward. I will forever smile when I see sea foam green things, folded over potato chips, and colored cute watches. Her energy, love and passion for life was remarkable. I am so grateful to have had her in my life all these years. I love her!

Joe, our amazing cousin and family, Linda was an anointed woman of faith whose life had an impact on everyone who met her. You are a dedicated man who walks with the Lord, and we are holding you in prayer, knowing that God will surround you with His love as you walk through this sorrow but knowing you and Linda will reunite at the Supper of the Lamb. Joe, Neal, Matt, and Alan, My thoughts and prayers are with you both. I have been blessed to have the opportunity to know and love each one of you. Even though the years between the last time I have seen you I have wonderful memories of spending time with the boys and seeing them grow up. May the Lord bless you and keep you close to your Mom until you see her again. Love always

I had the great experience of working with Linda when she had her first date with Joe. She knew from the very beginning she loved him, and it was a done deal when he sang to her. She brightened my life as she shared her courtship and marriage and daily life with me. I loved Linda, and she was a stellar teacher, touching the lives of so many of our Whittier kids. She truly loved her students. Thank you Linda, for being part of my memories. Love to Joe and their beautiful family.

Dearest Joe and family, I was so sorry to hear of Linda's passing. She was one of the most cheerful, kind and caring people that I know. You both made me feel so welcome when I first moved in to the neighborhood and I will always remember you both with love.

Linda was one of my dear teaching sisters at Whittier Elementary. For years after she retired, teenagers would still stop by looking for her. Many blessings to Linda's family......

I had the luck to get Mrs. Nesi as my 5th and 6th grade teacher. Everything she taught me about the JFK assassination, Nazi Germany, medieval times, the moon landing and egyptian times, I still remember every detail to this day. Joe came every year to help us launch rockets, we mummified chickens, we had a medieval jousting tournament and round table feast, just to name a few of the totally awesome things we got to do in her classroom . She made learning so much fun, which made me a life long learner. Years later I saw her at a family reunion and I was able to tell her about all of the things she had taught me. She was tickled that I remembered it all. When I graduated from college Mrs. Nesi and Joe were there. It meant so much to me she would come to cheer me on as I walked across the graduation stage. I will never forget what an influence she had on my life. Thank you Mrs. Nesi!

“The influence of a good teacher can never be erased.” I’m forever grateful that I was able to have Mrs. Nesi as my elementary school teacher. Although I was a knucklehead in those early years, Mrs. Nesi had the great gift of bringing out the best in her students. So thank you Mrs. Nesi! Thank you for all you have done for us, may we never forget the memories and lessons you shared with us.
