Lorentze ‘DeeAnn’ Cook
September 30, 1940 - January 20, 2025
Lorentze ‘DeeAnn’ Cook passed away peacefully in the loving arms of her daughter in Sandy, Utah.
DeeAnn was born September 30, 1940, on a very special day, her Momma’s birthday. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Richard Woodrow Jardine and Lorentze Jensen Jardine. She was raised in a large family in Salt Lake City that was so full of love and happiness. She married Kenneth Robert Goodfellow and they had 2 beautiful children together, Mark Robert Goodfellow and Kimberly Ann Goodfellow. They later divorced but continued to beautifully work together raising their children with never a harsh word about the other to be heard by their children. DeeAnn then married Melvin John Cook and together they had a beautiful baby boy, Jason John Cook. They later divorced.
DeeAnn worked several jobs throughout the years, much of it dispatching Semi trucks all across the country. She retired at the young age of 62. She had an incredibly strong bond with her very special sister and lifelong best friend, Bettie. They were a team; together almost every single day until they were separated by health issues, sadly both at different facilities.
DeeAnn was an incredibly soft, kind, caring and loving woman who never had anything negative to say about anyone or anything. When she lived in Taylorsville she loved watching the children playing in the park next to her home. One day, she saw a bag caught on the fence and went to remove the bag, to which she fell and broke her hip and shoulder. This began the failing of her mental health and the beginning of dementia. Shortly after, She moved into an assisted living facility. She was very happy, made many friends and enjoyed the endless meals and kindness shared with her. Sadly, this wasn’t the end of her health challenges. Covid lockdown was incredibly difficult for her. Her dementia continued to worsen and she was moved into Memory Care. DeeAnn was the beautiful, tall, skinny woman always walking the halls with her purse in hand. One day, that purse got caught on a chair causing her to fall and break her pelvis. She was no longer able to walk or do anything for herself at this point. The last few years have been very hard for her and our family, however, DeeAnn ALWAYS kept a smile on her face.
Our family expresses the utmost gratitude to each and every one of the care team that took such loving care of her. A few to specifically recognize include: Ashley Nielson Wilcox, her incredible RN, who has kindly helped DeeAnn and our family every step of the way. Julie Bylund, her case manager, who facilitated miracles with such kindness and love. And, Maria Castro, her special aide that took such pride in caring for her personal needs. Maria’s role exceeded all expectations as she did everything out of love for DeeAnn. Maria, thank you for keeping warm socks on my sweet Mom. Something that may seem so insignificant is what made it possible for my mom and I to be together one last time, looking into one another’s eyes and holding hands when she took her final breaths. I will remember you, your caring nature and your kindness for the rest of my life!
DeeAnn is survived by her Sister Tamara (Robbie) Baker and Brother-in-law Dale Briggs, her loving daughter Kimberly (Neil) Miller, four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Richard, Don, Robert and Leslie Jardine and her sisters Shirley Briggs and Bettie Morris. Sadly she was also preceded in death by her two sons at such young ages.
A very brief graveside service will take place on Friday, January 24th at 11:00 am at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E 10600 S, Sandy, where she will be laid to rest beneath her son Jason.
There will be a Celebration Of Life for her at her daughters home on Saturday, January 25th at and all are welcome. Please reach out if you need the location address.
