Loretta Varoz
August 3, 1945 - March 30, 2026
Our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend passed away on March 30, 2026. She is now reunited with her husband, Joseph, whom she missed dearly.
Loretta was born on August 3, 1945, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Charles and Phoebe Vialpando. She graduated from West High School in 1963, where she was a proud member of the Pep Club.
She married Joseph Varoz on May 15, 1965. Together they had two children, Cheryl and Jerad. They enjoyed 59 years of marriage, until Joseph’s passing in July 2024. Loretta enjoyed her job at Broadway Music, where she worked until the birth of her first child.
She was blessed to be a stay-at-home mom, and was always available for her children. She would oftentimes have fresh-baked chocolate cake waiting for them when they arrived home from school.
Loretta’s biggest pride and joy were her three grandchildren, Samantha, Jacob, and Alec. She and Joseph loved them with all their hearts and their grandkids loved them back, even hiding their shoes when it was time to leave so they couldn’t go home. They enjoyed having the grandkids over for sleepovers when they were young and getting cherry malts at Leatherby’s. They attended everything the grandkids were involved in, including sporting events, dance recitals, school programs, and Pinewood Derbies.
Loretta is survived by her daughter, Cheryl, and her fiancé, Darren Wall, her son, Jerad (Linda) Varoz, grandchildren, Samantha (Charles) Seward, Jacob Wagner, and Alec Wagner, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, her parents, and her brother, Gilbert.
Celebration of life will be on Thursday, April 9 from 5-7 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City, Utah. Guests are encouraged to park and enter on the north side of the building.

Dear Cheryl and Jerad, I was sad to hear of your moms passing. I have many fond memories of her. I was happy I got to visit with your mom & dad when my dad passed. They were such kind neighbors and friends for many years on Rocky Road. May the great memories you have bring you comfort & peace in the days ahead. Much Love, Leslie ( Brown)

I had the esteemed privilege of getting to know Loretta as her physical therapist and I will always be grateful for the time that we shared. Our sessions were filled with not just hard work but warmth and joy and laughter and I will always cherish the connection we shared. Loretta had a loving spirit and she shared that with everyone in her community. I know that she is at peace with her husband Joe looking down on her children, Jerad and Cheryl and family and all of us with her beautiful smile. I celebrate her life and her impact. With heartfelt sympathy and gratitude, I will surely miss my friend. RIP Loretta.
