Louis “Paul” Sjoblom
February 14, 1947 - May 27, 2026
It is with deep sadness and love that we announce the unexpected passing of Louis “Paul” Sjoblom May 27, 2026 with his K-9 companion of 9 years, Jake, by his side at his home in Cottonwood Heights, Utah.
Paul was born February 14, 1947 to Louis and Helen (Green) Sjoblom in Farmington Utah. He grew up in Fruit Heights and graduated from Davis High School. He grew up close to his many cousins as they all lived on the same street. As a teenager Paul found joy with his cars (1958 Impala, 1967 Stingray, 1972 Blazer ) and like his grandfather John he had a love for gardening
Paul served in the National Guard from July 1966 to February 1972 as a sharpshooter and marksman.
He retired from Mountain Bell, US West, Qwest, and Century Link in 2002. He started in 1968 in the Mail room and moved to many disciplines including outside plant, Sales and Marketing ending his career working with Qwest’s support of the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. With this assignment he had the opportunity to travel to Japan for the Winter Olympics and Australia for the Summer Olympics. While at Mountain Bell he participated in numerous volunteer activities including patch and paint, PBS telethons, Corporate games and many more volunteer endeavors. He was given the opportunity to drive the zamboni at the Olympic Oval.
After his retirement Paul continued to pursue his passions of Golf, Flyfishing and Woodworking he loved making intricate designed boxes, vases, cutting boards, bird feeders, tables, bath caddies and any jig he could to make building easier. He tied his own flies, spent many days in his Drift boat floating the upper Green in Wyoming with his son Chris and best friend Gary. He looked forward to his yearly guided trip floating the SanJuan river in New Mexico with Gary.
Cooking was one of Paul’s artistic talents. If you had the pleasure of helping out in the kitchen and you were using the wrong knife he wouldn’t hesitate to gently let you know. He hosted many dinner parties for family and friends. He was the main chef on many Lake Powell houseboat trips. His creations of pie’s, cakes, breads and extravagant meals from around the world were enjoyed by many. His rolls were the most anticipated offering at the annual Thanksgiving dinner at Chris’ house.
Paul had a great sense of humor and laughed easily. Our favorite quote was “You either like pork, or you’re wrong!” His family meant everything to him, he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and great granddaughters. They brought joy and smiles to his life. He was a quiet, kind and gentle man with a big heart. Even in his older years he was always innovating and trying new things.
Paul will be greatly missed by his fishing and weekly golfing buddies as well as his weekly Breakfast and Lunch companions.
Paul’s survived by his son Chris and wife Danielle, grandchildren Brinlee (McCoy) Ivie, Noah (Amanda) and Great Granddaughters Aylla and Ledger. Brother Ron (Loreen) and nieces, nephew and many cousins.
Preceded in death by parents Louis and Helen and sister Dee Ann Alder.
A Celebration of life will be held Friday, July 17th from 6-8 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 S 900 E, Salt Lake City. Guests are encouraged to park and enter on the north side of the building.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to an animal rescue organization in honor of Paul.

I was both shocked and saddened to learn of Paul’s passing. I’ve known Paul for many years through the Bell System. At one time, his office was right across from mine, and we spent many hours talking about life. No matter the topic, Paul’s outlook was always positive. He truly loved life, his family, and golf. I guess I always thought he would always be here. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family, especially his brother Ron and the entire family. Paul will be greatly missed, and I will always remember him with fondness.
