Louise Rose Bernardo

Louise Rose Bernardo passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of January 2, 2023, in the company of her loving older sister after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

 

Louise was born on May 22, 1939, to Antonio Bernardo and Fannie Fratto in Draper, Utah. As the seventh of ten children, she grew up in a large Italian family surrounded by love, noise, swearing, gardens, orchards, and lots of animals. She had a constant companion in the form of a dog or cat until her health began to deteriorate.  

 

Louise was a quiet, yet hard worker who spent her career working in accounting departments in various industries. She was small and feisty and didn't hesitate to share her profanity-laced feelings. Although she never married, Louise's family meant the world to her as evidenced by her habit of manning the camera at nearly all family gatherings. She will always be remembered for her heart of gold, preference for coffee and Black Hills Gold jewelry, delicious cooking, strawberry pies left on the car roof during the drive home, singing, weekly visits to her hairdresser, hugs and lipstick kisses, small shoes, her love of Englebert Humperdinck, and long serene hand-in-hand walks with her nieces and nephews at the most peaceful times of the day.  

 

Louise is preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Fannie, brother John; sisters Francis, Mary Sawyer, Geraldine, and Floreen Sticka; brother-in-law, James Dailey. She is survived by her brothers Paul (Jeanne) and Jimmie (Sandra), sisters Francine Dailey and Jean Caruso (Jimmy), sister-in-law Henrietta Bernardo, brother-in-law William Sticka, and many nieces, nephews and great and great-great nieces and nephews.

 

The viewing and rosary will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 300 East 11800 S, Draper, UT, on Tuesday, January 10th, 2023 at 11:00 AM, followed by the Funeral Mass at 12:00 pm. Internment will follow directly after at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 4 Ave “T” Street, Salt Lake City, UT.  

 

We wish to thank all the wonderful staff at Beehive Homes of Draper who cared for Louise with compassion and love. Words cannot express our appreciation to the staff who recognized that singing brought great joy and comfort to our beloved sister and aunt as her memory faded.
