Lucy Gonzales

“To You, O Lord, I lift up my soul.”  Ps 25:1

Our loving Lord welcomed Lucy to His heavenly home on May, 7, 2021.

Lucy was the child of Ynocencio and Julia and lived on farms in Utah and Idaho. As a little girl, she loved playing in the fields and barns with her younger brother, Joseph, and avoiding her chores. As an adult, Lucy disliked yard work but excelled in baking, canning, sewing, and especially quilting and embroidering, as well as, shopping for bargains, and she loved cowboy movies. As a youth, she was employed at a neighborhood grocery store, a laundry, a cookie factory (during WWII), and later in life she cleaned houses and worked in food services at West and East High Schools. She was a diligent worker. Lucy was married to Eppie Gonzales for 65 years and together they reared seven children. She was especially proud that she and Eppie were able to send all of their children to Catholic elementary and high schools. She was a devout and prayerful Catholic and held many ministries at her parish, which included volunteering at ice cream socials and carnivals, Assistant Den Mother, and for over forty years as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion at Mass and to the Sick. She enjoyed taking the Eucharist to the infirmed in their homes and in nursing homes and would give them a gift, which sometimes included a rosary that she had made, or a baked treat. Together with Merci Murray, Lucy organized the Ladies’ Sewing Group and held yearly Christmas boutiques to help with parish finances. She was also a member of the parish Altar Society, a Third Order Carmelite and supported the annual Carmelite Fair with her handmade crafts. 

Lucy is preceded in death by her husband, daughter, Cecilia, grandson, Scott, parents and siblings, Jesse, Antonio, Mary, Susan, and Joseph. 

She is survived by her sister-in-laws; Donna, Margaret, Monica, and Josephine, her children; Randall (Tamera), Shirley (Roger), Vincent, Alexander (Kerry), Laura (Dan), Brian (Kristene), son-in-law; Jim, 22 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and another on the way, as well as, many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Due to Covid-19, services will be held privately. For those who wish to attend virtually please return to this page where a “Watch Now” button will appear moments prior to the service beginning on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at 11:00 am. A Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 10:30 am. Lucy will be laid to rest at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery next to her husband.
