Luigi Barbiero
August 2, 1934 - April 24, 2025

Luigi Barbiero a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle passed away on April 24, 2025, surrounded by those who loved him most. Louie was born on August 2, 1934, to Saverio and Maria Rosa Barbiero in Pedivigliano, Italy. He immigrated to the United States on his fifteenth birthday with his mother, sister Michelina, and brother Gene, to join his father in Utah. His pride in his Italian heritage was only surpassed by his love of his new country as tears often fell during the playing of the Star-Spangled Banner when attending sporting events.
Louie attended South High School graduating in 1954. He served two years in the United States Army. Following his service, he attended trade school to become a licensed barber. A perfect profession for a man who loved to talk to people.
Louie married Pauline Pantolfi on May 16, 1959, and together they raised their five children in a home filled with love and the right amount of discipline. He was devoted to his family providing guidance and opportunity.
Louie loved to cook, and his family enjoyed many traditional Italian meals often shared with extended family and friends. He taught his children and later his grandchildren Italian card games and the family spent countless hours playing cards. His grandchildren brought him much joy and they loved him immensely. Louie also loved to play bocce, and he won many local tournaments.
Louie was a former Knight of Columbus, and past president of the Italian American Civic League. He spent immeasurable hours volunteering for those organizations. For many years he cooked breakfast on the day of the Carmelite Fair for the Sisters and fair volunteers.
Louie is survived by his wife Pauline, who provided amazing care when he became ill, his children: Rose Widdowson (Craig), Sam (Ann), Rena Beckstead (Mitch), Paul (Tracy) and John. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Mario (Jordan) and Lucas (Hannah) Widdowson, Adam, Brady, Jason and Matt Beckstead, Christian (Amy), A.J. (Anna) and Marena Barbiero and great grandchildren Enzo Widdowson and Ariya Westgate. He is survived by sister-in-law Janet Barbiero. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Gene and sister Michelina Fuoco and her husband James. Louie was a devout Catholic.
A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 5:00 PM, viewing to follow until 7:00 PM on Monday, May 5th at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church located at 1385 Spring Lane . A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 6th at 11:00 a.m. also at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Carmelite Monastery or St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church located in Holladay, Utah. The family would also like to thank Louie’s nephews Frank, Jim and Michael Fuoco for the many hours they spent visiting their uncle.
In Loving Memory
Uncle Louie was a wonderful, generous, loving man who will be missed by all, especially those of us who were very close to him. He had a beautiful life and shared it with all of us to the fullest for which we are all very grateful. Buon viaggio nel paradiso.

To all my cousins my condolences on Uncle Louie´s passing. While technically my cousin we always referred to him as Uncle Louie as did most of my family and friends. Always a sign of utmost respect by the St Anne´s and Judge faithful. I´m sorry to miss his celebration of life but he will be in my prayers! Riposi in pace... Che Dio lo abbia in gloria!

Louie was a wonderful and caring man. He will be missed by all who knew him especially our family! My dad Mike and Louie had a bond for over 62 years, they were like brothers. May God give him rest and strength to the Barbiero family ♥️

Louie will be missed by many people in many places. He could be seen at Sunday Mass, every sporting event, parish events, celebrations of family and friends, Italian community parties, Sacraments of family members and his many pals, to name only a few. He was a man of kindness and good humor. I was lucky to have known him and his great family. Pauline, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers at this sad, yet faith-filled, time. With affection and care, Fr. Norman

Rose, I am so deeply sorry for the loss of your father. He was such a good man. He cooked for my wedding reception way back in 1980. Great food and tons of laughs. My dad held him in high esteem along with all of us. He will be missed. Much love to all of you.
