Lydia James
March 3, 1915 - February 15, 2014
Lydia passed away peacefully Saturday morning February 15, 2014 at Legacy House in South Jordan, Utah. Lydia was 98 years young. She was born to Guiseppe and Maria Bruno, immigrants from Domanico, Italy, on March 3, 1915 in Helper, Utah. She was the youngest of four children.
She married the love of her life, Eugene Gibson, and moved to Moab, Utah. Lydia enjoyed hard work all her life; before marrying Gene she worked in a pharmacy in Helper. After moving to Moab, she worked in a jewelry store for 25 years. They lived in Moab until her husband's retirement. They returned to Helper and built a home so she could be near her father, and brother, John (Giovanni). Gene died soon after they moved back to Helper.
Several years later, Lydia was again lucky in love and married Dan James. After many happy years Dan passed. Lydia moved to Salt Lake City to be close to her niece Marie Bruno Nelson, with whom she shared a very special and close relationship.
Lydia had strength of character and a great love of life. She was a phenomenal woman, the kindest and most warm-hearted person one could meet. She loved to read, cook, play cards, and tell stories about the past. Mostly she liked spending time with her family. Family was everything to her and she especially loved the kids. She never tired of playing cards or dominoes. All who met Lydia instantly fell in love with her. She was an inspiration to all that knew her.
Lydia is survived by her niece and two nephews, several great and great great-nieces and nephews, not to mention all the other cousins and relatives that she loved so dearly. She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Guyatano (Guy), Giovanni (John), and Orlando (Landi); and her husbands Gene Gibson, and Dan James.
All services will be at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 300 East 11800 South, Draper, Utah. The viewing will begin at 6:00 PM and the rosary will begin at 7:00 PM on Friday the 21st of February. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday February 22nd at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Helper, Utah.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Lydia's name to Catholic Community Services, 745 East 300 South, Salt Lake City, UT 84102, www.ccsutah.org
Special thanks to David and the staff of Legacy House Assisted Living and Canyons Hospice for their love and tender care. We are sure Lydia would like to say thanks to all of you, that each of you are her favorite, and she loves you.
In Loving Memory
To the James Family: I am very sorry to learn of the death of your dearly beloved one. Having lost in death ones who were very dear to me, I know there are no words one can say at this moment to truly ease your pain. However, may knowing that others care, bring you a measure of comfort. Bible accounts of past resurrections guarantee: "all those in the memorial tombs will hear [Jesus'] voice and come out." (John 5:28,29) Also, at Daniel 12:2 we are told: "Many of those asleep in dust of the earth will wake up." As dead ones come forth from their graves, the earth will be filled with joy as never before, joy for those who are awaken and for those who are there to greet them. Mark 5:39-42 and Rev. 21:13 May meditating on this future miracle bring you comfort.

Marie, I loved getting notes from Lydia asking for a report of what was happening in Helper. Lydia and Dan were a special couple. Lydia always inquired about my daughter, and her girls Abby and Ally. I will miss her. Mary B.
