M. Antoinette DeVriendt Carter

1922-2013

Antoinette passed away peacefully March 8, 2013.

She was born, the only child, of Paul F. DeVriendt and Anna Misslin DeVriendt on March 24, 1922 in Pocatello, Idaho. She attended St. Joseph Grade School, then went to Sacred Heart Academy for two years in Ogden, Utah and graduated from St. Theresa’s Academy in Boise, Idaho. She was a student at the University of Idaho, Southern Branch where she took part in campus activities including President of Delta Gamma Sorority.

She worked for the First Security Bank in Pocatello. In 1946 moved to Los Angeles where she met Emery. They were married in Pocatello at St. Anthony Catholic Church on March 31, 1948. Then settled in Salt Lake City. In 1949 they were blessed with their son, James.

Toni was involved in several volunteer endeavors over the years; a Nurse’s Aid during World War II. She was a member of the American Cancer Society’s “Reach to Recovery”. She belonged to our Lady of Lourdes Alter Society and later at St. Vincent de Paul Church. Also member of Catholic Woman’s League where she chaired various committees.

She loved to travel, especially to Belgium where her father was born. Visited many European countries as well as the Holy Land and the Vatican.

Aside from traveling she loved to play bridge and gin rummy with her dear husband at lunchtime!

She cherished her family who survive her. Son James (Jane); grandchildren, Joseph and Jaime and a special friend Robyn Remy; and her extended family in Belgium.

Preceded by husband Emery of 60 years.

The family would like to thank all of the caregivers who helped her through her journey.

A wake will be held on Tuesday, March 12 from 6:00-8:00pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, with a Vigil beginning at 8:00pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am on Wednesday, March 13 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1375 East Spring Lane. Interment to follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 4th Ave. T Street.
