Mae LaRee Cooper Charles

March 16, 1926 - February 9, 2016

"Love at Home" – three simple words that exemplify our mom, grammy, great-grandmother, aunt, neighbor and friend.  Mae LaRee Cooper Charles passed away on Feb. 9, 2016 in Salt Lake City, Utah, of renal failure.  She was born to Nathaniel and Isabell Church Cooper on March 16, 1926 and raised in Panguitch, Utah.   She was proud of her small town heritage and it was there where she met and fell in love with William Leonard Charles.  They married May 29, 1944 and their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George LDS temple.  Bill and Mae raised their family in Rose Park where Mae lived for 60 years.  She was the ultimate 1960's mother and nothing was more important to her than her family.
Mae was classy, stylish, and had a great wit.  Anyone who came to her home was always welcomed with, "How about a Coke or a piece of candy or something to eat?"  She was a member of the Rancho Bowling Lanes Ladies Traveling League and was a beloved Primary and Sunday School teacher. Mae worked at the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce for 21 years as the receptionist, a job she was always proud of and loved the people she worked with.
Mae was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, three sisters, and a son-in-law.  She is survived by her children, LaRee (Robert) Devitt, Jan (Ted, deceased) Green, Bill (Charlotte) Charles, 8 loving grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, many loved nieces and nephews, and one sister, Jean Solie.
A wake will be held on Friday, February 12th from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East.  Burial to follow at Murray City Cemetery, 5490 Vine Street.
"There is one who smiles on high, when there's love at home."  Thanks for your love, mom.

In Loving Memory

Mae was one of the most kind and gentle women I know. We used to laugh about the time I walked into the Chamber for my first day on the job. She always remembered my "Dorothy Hamill" haircut We have been dear friends for 33 years. I loved out visits, walks, and our laughs. She knew more about me than most people. She was a wonderful listener and a treasured friend. She was so proud of her family and would tell me all the time how wonderful each of you were to her. I know how much she loved your Dad and how much she missed him. I can't imagine the reunion they shared on Tuesday evening. My heart is so sad that I will not get the chance to see Mae again in this life and hear her say "do you want a coke"! My thoughts and prayers are with you. Love, Kristine

Dear family, We loved your mother, she was so much fun and always interested in what we were doing. We didn't see each other very often except for phone calls now and then but we cherished the times we had with her. We are sad that we didn't know she was ill but we pray for you all whom we know she loved most dearly.
