Marca Lynn Porter
Our Loving Mother
Marca Lynn Porter passed away peacefully at home on October 5th, 2010 surrounded by her family. She was born on December 13th, 1914 to Leonard and Julia Dot Hatch Lynn in Lovell, WY. A wonderful mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many. Marca credited her longevity and good health to working in the sugar-beet fields throughout her childhood and youth.
She met and married a handsome drummer from a nearby Wyoming town, Rex Porter. Most of their life was spent in Casper, Wyoming, where dance jobs augmented the family income. Marca was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all her life. She served as RS president twice, as teacher, and enjoyed serving as chorister in the Relief Society. Eight children were born to the Porter family. The kids were treated to many early spring picnics, jam sessions and family get-togethers.
In 1970 the family remaining in Wyoming was persuaded to move to Salt Lake City. Marca and Rex enjoyed living closer to most of their kids in Utah, and enjoyed visiting the few who lived out-of-state. Her life was spent in caring for others, cooking delicious meals and tying countless soft quilts for so many of us. How we will miss her.
She is survived by her eight children Doris (Max) Williams, Orson (Anna), Shirley (Max) Murdock, Myron (Joan), Yvonne (Merritt) Bolton, Gary (Peggy), Julia (Mike) DeVore, Darlene Porter; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as two sisters Vee Paris of Billings, MT and Eva Asay of Lovell, WY; and extended family members. She is preceded in death by her husband Rex, who passed away in 2000.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 9th at 11:00 AM at the Gregson LDS Ward, 3153 South 900 East, Salt Lake City.
In Loving Memory
I miss Mom so much. We as her kids were so blessed to have her for our Dear Mother. She is in a far better place, and feels much better now. I appreciate Doris and Max for letting her stay with them for this past year. I know she enjoyed her stay and the attention she received. I love you all!

I am so blessed that I joined this family. Grandma Porter was a major blessing in our lives and I am so appreciative that I got to be a part of her life. She was a wonderful great-grandma to our kids. She is in a better place now. I appreciate Max and Doris for allowing us into their home weekly this past year to spend time with her. I love you all like my own family.

Marca was always like a mom to me. I am blessed to have known and shared so many good times with her over the years. She was a wonderful grandmother to my sons, Rex and Duke Porter. They loved to pay cards with her, but of course she always won!. She may be gone, but she will never be forgotten. Marca loved her family and was proud of each one of you. I feel so blessed to have had such a gracious, lovely lady as my friend and "mom". I will Miss so very much.

Julie and Michael, I am very sorry for the loss of your mother. Even though you had so many years it is always hard to lose your mom. What a blessing for the whole family to have her be at home surrounded by family. She is not really gone because she will always be in your heart.

Although I married into the family, I was never made to feel as an outsider. Marca was one of those rare people that always made you feel the center of attention. She was both a gracious hostess and guest; always inquiring about the welfare of other loved ones and thanking you for allowing her to be part of whatever function was going on, when it was we who were blessed with her presence. Marca had a quiet, solid kind of faith, again; a rare ability to hold steadfast to what she believed yet able to look outside those beliefs and share with those that may be searching truth along another path. No greater evidence of this than the ever changing refrigerator collage. From hither and yon came cards and notes, pictures and drawings. And not just the obligatory holiday ones. But everyday, every season; family wanting to share and connect with their best friend. Every addition would be displayed prominently with equal joy and the older ones reluctantly removed only when space would simply not allow. Like diamonds, we come into this world a spectrum. Some are near flawless, and remain so by avoiding haste and building on what grows the soul. Others, albeit more blemished, learn to use the cuts of life to enhance the light that flows through us until it outshines the flaws. Having come relatively late into the family, I know not from which path Marca came. And it really matters not, for the result is the same; she is now a shinning brilliance amongst the heavens.
