Marci Watts Adams

Marci Watts Adams was born in Salt Lake City on February 23, 1956 and passed away on March 23, 2023 at age 67 in Murray, Utah.

She is the youngest child of Charles and Juanita Watts.  The Watts family moved from Salt Lake City to South Ogden, where she completed her education through High School.  Shortly after graduation, they moved to Layton, Utah.

Marci started her post High School education at Weber State University, which she loving called “Harrison High.”  Later she earned her bachelor’s degree at the University of Utah.   Inasmuch as  Marci’s entire family was involved in public education one way or another, she was not interested in teaching.  But after working jobs like waitressing, being a bell-man and valet, and doing retail at a Hallmark Card store, she took a job as a teacher’s aide at Jordan Resource Center.  After a few years of being an aide and doing the same work as a teacher at half the pay, she decided to finish getting her teaching certificate and Masters degree in Special Education, which she completed at the University of Utah.

Her first job teaching was at the Jordan Resource Center’s “self-contained unit for behavioral disabilities.”  From there she took her talents to Davis County, teaching in a “self-contained learning disabled” classroom.  Following the birth of her 2^nd son, Ty Adams, she wanted to transition to part time hours.  Davis School District recruited her to be a “Teacher-Mentor” which she did for several years, winding down after the birth of her youngest son Benson Adams.

In the 1970’s Marci married Jeff Littlefield, later divorced. In the 1980’s she married Randy Hinerman; they had one son, Chad Hinerman, later divorced.  On February 20, 1988, Marci married Guy Adams lasting over 35 years.  Marci told Guy that:  “A 3^rd divorce was not an option, but murder is.”  Together they joyously brought into their union two sons, Ty Adams, and Benson Adams (deceased). 

There are many fun facts about Marci.  Being highly intelligent, she was a trivia queen.  She was an animal lover of all kinds – except pet birds and snakes.  She loved bird watching, feeding and behaviors.  She loved her present dogs, Khalessi and Peanut.  Additionally, she took in strays – and lured a beautiful black cat to trust her, and adopted “Ikka” which means “no.”  She was grandmother to her grand cat, Ty Adams’ cat George.  She loved to cook.  She loved to watch the University of Utah football and gymnastics (RedRocks).  She was crafty, creative, loved decorating, and moving furniture and pictures frequently.  Marci was extremely generous, giving to causes she believed in, such as helping Africa villages get clean water, to political candidates in whom she believed.  When possible loved to donate physical items like socks to the homeless.  She felt great joy and blessed to help family and friends so they could achieve their goals.  Marci continued to love camping and boating which she did with her parents, and extended to her family throughout her life.  Anyone who heard Marci laugh, would have a hard time not laughing with her as it was infectious.  Even with her health challenges, Marci was a master shopper.  Online shopping became a gift from god.  She told everyone that the only thing more powerful than pain, was shopping.  Bragging rights were key in her shopping by telling everyone how great of a deal she figured out, thus the family was the recipient of many fun, sometimes unique gifts.

Marci suffered from health issues from a young age, and came to full bear around 1992.  After many doctors, she was diagnosed with an ‘undifferentiated Autoimmune disease.’  Later she was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, yet still had symptoms of Lupus, connective tissue disorder, fibromyalgia, and others.  All of which caused severe pain.  Marci was an incredibly strong woman, and did not want these issues to impact her life, and relationships.  Unfortunately after 25+ years of this, she was unable to win the battle.  She is now in a better place out of pain, and reunited with her parents and son.   Her final desire was to donate any part of her body to help with research, and was able to donate her eyes to science.

If you asked Marci, name one thing you are the most proud of, she would tell you “being a mom.”  The world is a litter dimmer with her passing.

Marci is survived by her husband Guy Adams, son Ty Adams, son Chad Hinerman, sister Debi Melton, and sister Laura Bond.  Preceded in death by son Benson Adams, parents Charles and Juanita Watts.  

A Celebration of Life will be on April 8, 2023 from 6-8 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East. Guests are encouraged to use parking and the entrance on the north side of the building.
