Marcus Curtis Mayeda

May 31, 1989 - August 21, 2025

Marcus Curtis Mayeda, passed away unexpectedly on August 21, 2025. From the moment Marcus arrived, he was full of possibilities.  Marcus lived a life marked by empathy, creativity, and determination. He attended West High School where he was an All-State Wrestler, went on to place in the Utah State Tournament multiple years in a row. He proceeded to obtain his nursing degree and loved being able to provide care to those in need. He was passionate about cooking, sports, music/art and spending time with his family, friends, and dogs. He competed in many fishing and bowling tournaments, spent time golfing and camping with friends and can be remembered sitting at the piano improvising and playing various styles of music. He had an infectious laugh that could bring smiles to a crowd and was often the one jumping up to cheer on others.

There is a silence now, we miss his laugh and the mess he often made, and though he is gone from sight, Marcus remains with us in memory, in spirit, and in our hearts with a love that has no end.

He is survived by his parents Brian and Diana, sisters Monique and Makendy, Aunt Shauna (Brian) and Uncle Craige.

A celebration of Marcus’s life will be on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Guests are encouraged to use the parking on the north side of the building.

Please share your memories with his family.

As Marcus's primary wrestling coach and many hours on the mat I grew to truly appreciate what a precious human he was. He used a "slime-move" to win a large tournament in Wyoming after the Tournament director wouldn't seed him. Marcus blew his weight class apart beating the second seed in the first round to finally beat the number one seed in the finals with the same bazar move in the last ten seconds both times! Wow! He only lost the first place in his senior year State Championship Tourney after being injured a week earlier. Amazing! We all will surely miss him, especially in the wrestling room where he continued to drop in for years after graduating. He helped many West wrestlers and was always the consummate humble person who we all knew but, always extremely focused with virtually anything he did. Even out-fished this fishing guide in my own boat (photo) on Mantua Res. Brian and Diana - you guys done very well... Dan-the-Fisherman Potts

Dear Mayeda Family I was heartbroken to hear about the sudden passing of Marcus. I had the privilege of working with him at Highland Ridge Hospital, and I want you to know how deeply he touched the lives of those around him. Marcus was not only an incredible nurse, but also a truly kind and compassionate person who cared deeply for his patients, colleagues, and friends. He had a gift for making people feel comfortable, valued, and understood. His warm smile and gentle nature lifted the spirits of everyone he encountered. Marcus was loved and respected by all who worked alongside him, and it was clear that he poured his heart into everything he did. Please know that his kindness, dedication, and friendship will always be remembered. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. I hope you can find some comfort in knowing how many lives Marcus touched and how greatly he will be missed. With deepest sympathy, Gabbie Rivera
