Margery R. Emmett
January 26, 1930 - December 30, 2015
On December 30, 2015, Margery R. Emmett passed away after a very brief struggle with pancreatic cancer and our sweet Lord received another angel who dearly loved Him as well as her family here on Earth. Margery was born on January 26, 1930 to Kenneth and his beloved wife Dorothy Ruggles. She grew up in her favorite place, Winnetka, Chicago, Illinois. She met her future husband and soulmate after a rainbow had ended on a sidewalk ahead of her, wondering where her part of gold was hiding. Shortly afterwards on that same day, a friend introduced her to Robert who fell in love with her instantly. They were married a year later. They had two children, Wendy and Robert, who have appreciated having a caring, doting mother. Margery was able to travel eventually to extensive parts of the world with Robert, her engineering husband, when he consulted at many different treatment plants. Our favorite saying was, "Dad worked. Mom shopped." Fortunately, mom was excellent at finding wonderfully inexpensive bed and breakfasts and great bargains at authentic native shops. She was also famous for giving extra money to storekeepers and taxi drivers to help their families. When she was home, she welcomed numerous people into her home where she would serve them food, tea, coffee and wine. Father cooked, mother was the hostess. Her exuberance in life was her one main ingredient. Mother never met a stranger, everyone had a story to tell and she wanted to hear them all and share her stories too. She was a member of WAAIMES and of All Saints Episcopal Church in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Dorothy Ruggles; her older sister Betty; younger sister Cindy and by many good friends, especially Zakia Mian. She leaves behind her soul mate Robert to whom she was married to for 61 years; her two children Robert and Wendy (Larry); nine grandchildren Darlene, Kenny, Brandon, Maya, Enoch, Amanda, Carrie, Amber and Savannah; and many great-grandchildren; sister Victoria and her two daughters Kim and Jean. She also leaves behind many other young people who considered her their ‘grandma'. She is sorely missed by all who had the honor of knowing her. Special thanks to the staff at Inspiration Hospice, for the excellent care and loving support we received during our mothers final weeks on Earth. Mom, we pray that your flight to heaven has a smooth landing.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, SLC.
