Mary died peacefully January 27, 2011 at home surrounded by her family.
She was born September 25, 1936 in Trujillo, CO to Ruby and Eduardo Martinez. She married Frank J. Salaz on October 25, 1958 and together they had five children. She was devoted to her Catholic faith. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who filled her time with loving her grandchildren. She was very giving, kind and generous.
She is survived by her children Debi (Kurt) Paulsen, Brenda Salaz, Jerry Salaz, Dolores (Kevin) Shurtleff and Sophia Haun; 14 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and one on the way; 4 sisters;
Preceded in death by a brother, Fred and a grandson, Joshua.
A memorial mass will be celebrated on Thursday, February 3rd at 11:30 AM at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 4501 West 5215 South, Kearns. Friends may call upon the family on Wednesday, February 2nd at 7:00PM, also at the church, where a vigil service will begin at 7:30. Inurnment will follow the funeral mass at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 4th Avenue & “T” Street. There will also be a celebration of Maria's life held Saturday, February 5, at 3:00 pm at Mountain Vista United Methodist Church 8931 South 3200 West. West Jordan, Utah.

Aunt Mary was an amazing woman. She was the least judgmental person I know. She accepted you who are no matter what faults you had and she still loved you unconditionally. She was so funny to be around and was always making jokes about everything. She was so comfortable to be around and we will miss her dearly. We're so fortunate to have been by her side her last days and hours of her earthly life. No more pain Tia Maria. We now have another Angel watching over us. Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God!
