Marian Anderson
"Telephone Pioneer"
1929-2016
Marian Anderson, 86, passed away April 26, 2016 in Salt Lake City.
Born Nov. 13, 1929 in Magna, Utah to Andrew Marion and Alice May Rolfe Anderson, she was the sixth of seven children; two sisters died during childhood, leaving Afton, Betty, Edna, Marian and little brother Bob. The family moved from Magna to South Salt Lake during the Great Depression, where they lived until construction of Interstate 80 took their home and the family moved to Green Street. Marian retired after a career with the phone company and was an active member of the Telephone Pioneers until her recent health decline. Marian was a gentle soul loved by everyone, who could make anyone smile.
Marian never married, choosing to stay beside her sister Edna in caring for their parents, and after their passing, she and her sister had a bond between them and a special partnership for the rest of their lives. They had a rich life together, were devoted to their family and friends, and had an exceptional love for all children. They made and donated quilts and stuffed animals for children in hospitals and for police and fire departments to provide to families. Marian and Edna found time to travel the country and the world, and Marian loved making scrapbooks of their escapades.

Marian is preceded in death by her parents and all her siblings. She is survived by three nieces; two nephews; brother-in-law Philip A. Lavorgna; and sister-in-law Barbara Anderson. A special thanks to Millcreek Home Health Services and to the Beehive Home at East Millcreek for all their care, and especially to Esther for her devotion to Marian. In lieu of flowers, donate to a children's charity or help a child in need.

A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 from 6pm to 8pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, SLC, UT. Please use the complimentary valet parking provided on the north side of the building. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at 10am at Valley View Memorial Park, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, UT.

In Loving Memory

We would like to express our condolences to the family and friends of Marian Anderson. The loss of a loved one is never easy. Our Creator, Jehovah, has provided comfort for us in times like these through his word the Bible. One day we will welcome our loved ones back again (John 5:28, 29) and death and mourning will be done away with (Revelations 21:3,4). May those verses and many others bring you some comfort in your time of mourning. Please also see jw.org.

Marian was a great person with a great heart. We always loved getting together with her. She always made us laugh. Kristen and Mikaela still have and treasure a quilt she and Edna made them. May she rest in peace. The Ponce Family

What a choice person Marian was! She worked for me back in the late 70s through 1981 when I got a promotion to Denver. Marian was everything a good employee should be. She'd just sit down when she came in and start working and keep her nose to the grindstone until time to leave. She was always such a happy and positive person. I'll never forget that giggle. We kept in touch until just a couple years ago. The last time I saw Marian and Edna was when we were supposed to go out to lunch but when Elsie Sentker and I showed up, they had a flood in the basement and had to cancel. I enjoyed receiving postcards from their many trips and their Christmas cards. We had many lunches through the years together when i stopped in SLC to visit friends and Marian was one of the best of them. Marian enriched all of us who came in contact with her. I will miss her.
