Marie Curtis

Our lovely mother, Marie Curtis, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2024, after a short decline. Marie had experienced several falls and confusion in the last few weeks. She was just shy of her 86th birthday. Our family takes comfort in knowing that she is perfectly healed and is home with Jesus, her Lord and Savior.

Marie was born New Years Eve 1938 in Chattanooga, Tennessee to John and Patsy Stephens. She was the youngest of three daughters. Dorthy Jane Callahan and Lanell Stephens preceded her in death. Marie spent her early childhood in Chattanooga until the family moved to Burning Bush, Georgia when she was in 3rd grade.

Marie graduated from Rossville High School and later worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield, where her friend Flo introduced her to her future husband Frank Curtis. Frank and Marie married in September 1960. They bought their first home and settled in East Ridge, Tennessee in 1962. They welcomed three daughters, Lisa in 1962, Gina in 1964 and Tara in 1969. After being a stay-at-home mom, she reentered the workforce in 1971 working in accounting. She continued working until 1998.

Marie attended and was baptized at Burning Bush Baptist Church. Frank and Marie later attended Jones Memorial Methodist Church in East Ridge and Son Rise Baptist in Salt Lake City. Later in life, Marie attended the LDS church with her friends and neighbors.
Frank, Marie, Gina and Tara moved to Salt Lake City in 1983 when Frank was transferred by AT&T. Lisa stayed in Chattanooga to attend college. Gina married Mike Matthies in 1986 in Salt Lake City. Sadly, Gina passed away in 2007. Tara gave them their one and only grandchild Jazmin in 1991. Jazmin was the apple of their eye and a very special joy to them.

Frank passed away in 2013. They were married for 52 years. In their younger days they enjoyed dancing, bowling, working on home improvement projects, playing cards and traveling around the country with friends and spending time with their granddaughter. Marie was an avid pet lover and had many dogs and cats over the years. In her later years her rescue dogs Frankie, Annie and Sasha where special companions, especially after Frank died.
Jazmin married to Colby Takahashi in 2017 and they have two adorable kiddos, Holden 5, and Wesley 2. Marie was always excited to spend time with her great grandkids.

In the summer of 2021 after a significant fall and illness, Marie knew the house was too much for her and she decided to move to an assisted livening community, where she spent her final few years.
Although we, the family, are sad that Marie has passed on, we know she is with Frank, Gina and her family once again. She cherished her time with her friends. We thank each of you for being a part of our mother’s life.
The family would like to thank the care aides and medical techs at Barton Creek Assisted Living for taking such good care of Marie, espically in her final few days. We would also like to thank Sarah, Holly, Lisa and Lexi with Elevation Hospice for their excellent care.
