Marie Lucy Lozano
January 26, 1935 - August 19, 2026
Marie Lucy Lozano, our beloved mother passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, August 19, 2026 in Holladay, Utah. She was born January 26, 1935, at home in rural Huerfano County near Walsenburg, Colorado to Frank and Doris Pacheco. Lucy had a sweet smile and was kind and loving to all who knew her. She loved God with all her heart and prayed constantly for others. She was always willing to listen to others and offer support or advice at the appropriate moment. She had a beautiful writing hand and her notes of support were so timely. A hard worker, and always willing to lend a helping hand to others, Lucy would share whatever she had.
Lucy was an only child, but not a lonely child. She grew up in Silt, Colorado, near her parent’s families where she played with her cousins and uncles and aunts that were her age. She attended elementary school in a one room schoolhouse. Silt was a small town in Western Colorado and every year the Catholic nuns would visit to teach Catechism to the children. Lucy loved learning about our Catholic faith. She loved the nuns and looked forward to when they would return. She considered becoming a nun.
Lucy graduated from Silt High School with a class of twelve seniors. She moved to Denver, Colorado where she attended Barnes Business College to learn secretarial skills. While in college she met our father, Ross Montoya and they were married in 1954. She finished college and got her first secretarial job at the Grinnell Company in Denver, and worked until her sons were born. The family moved to Salt Lake City in the mid 60’s. She and Ross later divorced in 1977. Lucy went back to work and was hired at Varian-Eimac. She worked hard and was eventually promoted to executive secretary to the plant manager. She met Benito Lozano and they were married in 1979. Lucy worked for Varian-Eimac for almost twenty years and later worked for Salt Lake County until retiring in 2000.
Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Doris Pacheco; husband, Benito Lozano; and previous husband, Ross Montoya. She is survived by her three sons, Lawrence Montoya (Julie); Michael Montoya (Tonya); Robert Montoya (Lana); and step sons, Ben Lozano (Gina); Daniel Lozano; David Lozano; Albert Lozano; and numerous grand children whom she considered her greatest blessings!
A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at 9:30 am, and a rosary prayed at 10:30 am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1375 Spring Lane, Salt Lake City, Utah. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am, also at the church, followed by interment at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, “T” Street and 4th Avenue, Salt Lake City.
The family would like to offer our sincere gratitude and appreciation to the nurses and aides at The Ridge Cottonwood, and Suncrest Hospice for the loving care given to our mom, sweet Lucy.
