Marie Rita Doris Poirier

June 26, 1930 - May 20, 2023

Marie Rita Doris Poirier passed peacefully on May 20, 2023. She was born Marie Rita Doris Terrio June 26, 1930 in Cambridge Mass to parents who immigrated from Canada in the 1920’s.

She was a devoted Catholic and served as an extraordinary minister, helping to administer holy communion.  She taught a bible study class out of her home for many years.

After a divorce in 1973 she opened her own beauty salon in Goleta, California.  She moved to Utah in 1983 to be closer to her to her son Joe and his family.

She was a talented cake decorator.  She made many fun cakes for family birthdays. She had a way of making what seemed like an impossible cake into a work of art.

She loved to crochet, earning 2 blue ribbons in the Davis County fair for elaborate wedding dresses for 16” (Barbie type) dolls.  She also was continually crocheting hats for the homeless which were distributed to Catholic social services and later various homeless shelters.  She would knit between 250-300 per year for the past 20 years!

She is survived by her brother Ernest who resides in Cambridge Mass.  Sister Marie Williams who resides in Orlando Florida, son Laurence (Karen) who reside in Goleta California, as does her great grandson Larenzo.  Son Joseph (Claire) and their two sons Elliot (Aliźe) and Alex (Whitney) and 4 great grandchildren Atticus, Izelle, Joseph and Cillian.  A daughter Lynette Daniel and her husband Paul who reside in Arkansas with their daughter Natasha and 2 additional great grandchildren (Maliki and Ariana).  And one other grandson Robert Poirier (son of Robert below…) of North Creek New York.

She was preceded in death by her father Jeffery who passed in 1936, her mother Louise Terrio who passed in 1983, and brother Jeffery who passed in 1996.  She had an infant daughter Denise who passed in 1960, another daughter Michelle who passed in 1972, a son Robert who passed in 1999, grandson Austin Paul Daniel who passed in 2008, and a granddaughter Lauren Poirier (Laurenzo’s mother) who passed in 2019.

Starks funeral home provided outstanding support and services for her final resting which will be in Cambridge Mass along with her mother and brother.  There are no public services planned at the present time.

If you wish to do anything or make a donation in her remembrance please do so to the LOCAL charity of your choice.

I believe I knew Marie in Santa Barbara, when I was still growing up..there was a Paul Poirier family who owned a Mobile Home Park & Apartment bldg. @ 420 W. Mission, where we lived after Dad recovered from his time in WW2..they were lovely people & very understanding of the WW2 Veterans, who were living there to try to raise their families and in my parents case, to buy in Ellwood..my father worked at UCSB & needed to buy land in Ellwood to place his home..if Marie isn't part of the Poirier family that I knew, still allow me to ask my Priest for prayer for that family..Amen, from those at St. Augustine..
