Marilyn Ann Williams Scott

October 25, 1939 - May 27, 2023

Marilyn Ann Williams Scott, 83, took her last breath on May 27, 2023 in Salt Lake City, Utah.  She was surrounded by her loving family.  Marilyn was born in Pittsfield Massachusetts on October 25, 1939.  She was the middle child of 5 born to Clarence “Bucky” and Lillian Williams.  Raised in Springfield Massachusetts Marilyn graduated from The High School of Commerce and pursued a career as a surgical technician.  She was a pioneer in this field of nursing.

On a very cold day in February 1962, Marilyn married her best friend Harry “Buddy” Edmonds Scott.  They had 2 daughters, Tracy Alyse and Kelly Anne.

The Scott family moved around the county for Harry’s career with IBM  finally settling in Highland Village, Texas.

Marilyn had many loves: Watching all types of sports, especially basketball.  Be glad she wasn’t your coach especially if you missed free throws.  Listening to music, Johnny Mathis was one of her favorites. School dances with her siblings, where she would sock hop the night away.  Her “Red” sparkly fingernails and toes.  But her real passion was knitting.  She loved to knit scarves, hats, and blankets.  Anything you wanted, she could do.

With Harry’s passing in 2008, Marilyn remained in Texas another 6 years, then moved to Arizona to live with Kelly and Lisa, finally settling in Salt Lake City at  The Ridge Foothill.

Marilyn had many friends and was loved by all.  She was sweet, wonderful, kind, strong and never complained.  A friend said it best,  “She mentored me without saying a word.”

Marilyn is survived by her girls, Tracy Scott and partner Paul Barbiero, Kelly Scott and wife Lisa Pickering, brothers Edward Williams and wife Mary, Stanley Williams and wife Phyllis and Clarence “Bucky” Williams Jr and wife Mary.  She was a loving Granny to Kirsten, Sarah, and Stuart Pickering. Great Granny to Juliet Woodland and Fur Granny to Simba, Fritz, and Gretel Scott.

Marilyn had many cousins,  nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband Harry Edmonds Scott, father Clarance Williams, mother Lillian Williams, and sister Joan Henderson.

There are no services planned at this time. The family would like to thank: The  University of Utah Hospital, Huntsman Cancer Institute, The Ridge Foothill, iCare Home Health, St Joseph Villa, Aspen Ridge West, and Aspen Ridge West Hospice.

Rest in peace:  Mama Scott, Tootieboo, MeMa, and Granny.

In Loving Memory

My deepest condolences for the whole family. She sounds like an amazing woman. I never had the pleasure of meeting her, but I'm a friend of her daughter Tracy. Tracy absolutely loved her Mom and she spoke of her often. I knew they had a special bond and she was so grateful to have her Mom close to her in Salt Lake City.  I am praying for God's peace and comfort for the whole family.

When we lived in Highland Village we had a group called the Twisted Stitchers. This included knitting, cross stitch, quilters and whatever you could do with your hands. The quilters had a number of retreats and Marilyn always came with her knitting and became out "official seam ripper". Most of our original group is now in heaven and I believe your Mother is now enjoying knitting, talking and eating with them. She will always be remembered.

I was Harry's last personal secretary at IBM before he retired.  What an amazing person he was; he literally never met a stranger.  And Marilyn was the perfect match to Harry.  Teasing him, picking on him, laughing.  They were truly a joy to be around.  To this day, I have one of Marilyn's needlepoints on the wall of our bedroom.  I'm devastated to learn that both of them are gone. My profound condolences to both Tracy & Kelly and their families.  The world is less bright without Harry & Marilyn.
