Marilyn Burgess Preece

February 23, 1948 - May 20, 2024

Marilyn Burgess Preece peacefully passed away at the age of 76 on May 20, 2024 at her home in West Valley City, Utah.

Marilyn was born to Emmett William and Marion Ruth Burgess on February 23, 1948 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was one of four children, her sisters Susan and Joan, and her brother, Bill.

Marilyn spent most of her early life in Utah and graduated from Utah Technical College in Nursing with her LPN. She moved to Rockville, Maryland in the early 1970’s and found herself living in Kearneysville, West Virginia before returning to Utah in the late 70’s. She practiced nursing most of her life before retiring from it and working for the Utah Housing Authority, where she met Perry (Dick) Preece. The two married in 1998, living above the capitol in Salt Lake City before settling in West Valley City, Utah. They enjoyed their time together, especially with family and friends. She was the life of the party even if she didn’t realize it.

Marilyn was a free spirit and lived life her way. She loved traveling around Utah and the West Coast. She enjoyed camping trips to Hoop Lake in the Uintas and traveling along the West Coast through Oregon and Northern California, visiting friends and family. Marilyn especially loved visiting Moab, Utah. She loved the warm weather, but it was the Native American culture found around Moab that she loved the most. She also had a passion for shoes and jewelry, especially silver and turquoise jewelry.

Marilyn is survived by her husband Dick, sister, Susan Ott (Bob Heitcamp), brother, Bill Burgess (Kella), daughter, Lisa Rock, daughter’s mother-in-law, Marilyn Halton, sons, Darin Moyer, Richard Preece, Robert Preece, Steve Preece (Jennifer), grandchildren, Nate Rock (Jordyn), Nicholas Halton, Matthew Halton, Dustin Gaunt, Quentin Preece, and Rachel Bice. She is also survived by many more relatives and good friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Joan Hansen, daughter, Pam Preece, and son-in-law, Milt Halton.

A celebration of life will be on Monday, June 3 from 6-8 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Guests are encouraged to use parking and entrance located on the north side of the building.
