Mark J. Platts

January 22, 1952 - December 17, 2013

Mark J. Platts
"BB"
January 22, 1952 – December 17, 2013

Surrounded by his family, Mark Platts, our beloved husband, father and Papa, was swept away ridiculously quickly the afternoon of December 17th from a brief but vicious illness.

To know Mark was to love him. He was a caring, hard-working, easygoing man who loved his family above all else. He shared his life with his loving wife Kathy in 40 years of marriage; together they raised two daughters and were enjoying life as grandparents. His daughters, Kristin and Jennifer, adored their father and each enjoyed a special relationship with him. He shared a special bond with his 12 year old granddaughter Ashtyn; was smitten with his two year old grandson Cole; and was joyfully anticipating his new granddaughter due to arrive in May.

He was just a few months shy of retirement from his lifetime of work as owner of Platts' Seat Cover and Top Shop. Mark could be found on the golf course several times a week in good and not so good weather, and looked forward to playing with his daughter Jennifer every Saturday. He also enjoyed camping, fishing and was Ashtyn's biggest fan at every soccer game. He had an extremely unique circle of friends, many dating back to childhood, which he cherished deeply.

His passing is a tremendous loss for everyone that shared in his great life. Mark will be forever missed. In his last moments he wrote, "Everyone only lives one time and I've been very blessed".

He is survived by his wife Kathy; daughters Kristin Drechsel and Jennifer (Matthew) McDermott; grandchildren; brothers Scott (Brenda) Platts and Dan (Patricia) Platts; and his mother Viola. Preceded in death by his father Glen and brother Ron.

Friends are welcome to celebrate his life on Monday, December 23rd from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City.

Though it has been a couple of class reunions ago that I saw Mark, I remember him as a jovial, fun-loving guy from our days at East High School. Now I realize he was your dad, Jennifer, and extend to you, your mom, sister and family my sincere condolences.

Kathy and Girls, Mark was so very dear to me. I always knew in my heart that he was there for me through thick or thin. Kathy, I am so happy that you had him for 40 blessed years. I know all of the girls were so special to him. He will be so missed by many but that does not make it any easier for each of you as he did love you each in his special way. My love is with you. My Dearest Kathy and family, My thoughts and prayers are with you during this most difficult time. This is truly a tragedy, and I wish we could understand, but it is hard to know what our Creator has planned for us. It frightens me that this happened so quickly. I just hope that you will know how much I care about you and I want to give you a hug. Could I please take you to lunch next week, since I can not be there with you today. I pray that God will comfort you and bless you. Lovingly, Claudia Peterson
