Mark M. Kounalis

Mark M. Kounalis, sometimes known as Markos, passed away on December 27, 2024, at the age of 90 from natural causes. Born on November 6, 1934 to Manousos and Aikaterinis Kounalakis, in Crete, Greece, Mark moved to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1955, where he met his wife Peggy Manos, and was married on August 22nd, 1964.
A highly successful and award winning car salesman, Mark built a reputation for his warmth and integrity in the auto industry. He was deeply passionate about his work, always striving to provide excellent service to his customers. In addition to his professional achievements, Mark served on the board of the Minos Chapter of the Pancretan Association, reflecting his commitment to his community, and his heritage.
Mark cherished his time with his beloved wife and children. He found immense joy in family gatherings, often bringing everyone together with his exceptional cooking skills, particularly his favorite dishes of lamb, chicken, fish and steak.
A devoted Greek Orthodox, Mark held his faith close to his heart, which guided him throughout his life. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and the love he shared with his family and community. His spirit will live on in the memories of all who knew him.
Mark is survived by his wife Peggy, son Mark, daughter Katina, and son Anthony, and four grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM on Wednesday, January 8th 2025 at Holy Trinity Church, 279 S 300 W, Salt Lake City. A viewing will be held one hour prior at 10:00 AM. He will be laid to rest, following mass, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
