Marshall Gordon Bennett

August 15, 1925 - November 28, 2010

Marshall Gordon Bennett

Our loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother passed away on Sunday, November 28th, 2010.  He was born on August 15th, 1925 to Ann Ella Milner and Archibald F. Bennett.

He married his sweetheart, Patricia Winsor, June 27th, 1950 in the Salt lake Temple, 60 years ago.  He graduated from East High School and attended the U of U.  Marsh became a pilot in WWII later serving in the Korean and Vietnam Wars.  The military service took him and his family across the US and to France for 4 years.  He became chief pilot for Mt. Fuel until retirement.  He served an LDS mission to the Tahitian Islands in 1947-49 where he learned to speak French, Tahitian, and Paumotu.  In 1986, he and Pat served as temple workers in the Tahitian Temple and later ordinance workers in the Jordan River Temple.

Marsh loved his family, the church, teaching the gospel, and the Tahitian people.  He enjoyed tennis, music, cooking, working on cars, and gardening, especially in his greenhouse.  Helping his family and friends was his greatest joy.  Dad had such a sense of humor and enjoyed teasing those around him.  He was always positive and smiling.

He is survived by his wife; six children Kathleen Colonna, Laura (Jeffry) Harland, Gordon (Rozaria) Bennett, Teresa (John) Hughes, Bruce Bennett, Chris (Georgette) Bennett; 12 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; two sisters Barbara Roach and Joan Farr; and brother David Bennett.  Preceded in death by his parents; beloved granddaughter Gusty June Colonna; and sister Marilyn Romney.

The family expresses deepest thanks to all of dad’s loving caregivers CNS and VA.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 6th at 11:00 AM at the Hunter 11th Ward, 5000 W. Janette Ave. (3985 S.), West Valley City, with a viewing beginning at 9:30 AM also at the church.  Interment to follow at Utah Veteran’s Memorial Park, 17111 S. Camp Williams Rd., Bluffdale.

In Loving Memory

Dear Pat and Family, I wanted to offer our family's condolences at Marsh's passing. We know, as you do, that all is now well with him. You have meant a great deal to my family. We always looked forward to having Marsh and Pat drop by for home teaching. Mom and Dad loved you both dearly, and Dad particularly loved talking aviation with Marsh. As for me, I will always remember how kind and loving Marsh was - he always treated even us kids with such care and respect. I can truly say that he was one of my childhood heroes, and he will be missed. You are in our thoughts and prayers. With love, Marty and the Ricks Family

Dear Pat and Family, Our dearest love and fondest memories are with you at Marsh's passing. Mother who is convalescing from a broken hip is unable to attend, but remembers with deepest love and admiration the wonderful missionary and legacy that he and his family have left. She mentioned that she felt that a Tahitian Mission reunion is almost complete! As Ruth and Bentley's surviving children, we also want you all to know how deeply loved and admired you both were. Even though many, many years have gone by, there is still a part of ouur hearts who claim you as members of the family. Thank you so much for your examples and understandings of our love of flying and Tahiti! You'll always be part of our deepest and most cherished memories. God bless you and your family. Eternal reunion will be a blessed event for immediate family members and those whose experiences, service, and memories are such a treasured part of our lives too. Love and prayers are sent both heavenward, and to those of you who remain with us. God Bless... Sister Ruth Mitchell; Eleanor, Martha, Margaret, Suzanne, and David .
