Marta Jane Whipple Pratt
April 24, 1937 - November 25, 2023
Our beloved mother, grandmother and sister and friend, Marta Jane Whipple Pratt, 86, passed away on the morning of November 25th, 2023 while in the care of hospice for a recent fall.
Marta was born on April 24th, 1937 to Thelma Cook Whipple and Kenneth L. Whipple in Grand Junction, Colorado. Marta was raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she attended and graduated from West High School. She was introduced to her husband, Bryant, by a mutual friend when he had been recently discharged from the Army. They were married on May 13, 1961 and recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. Our mom was the consummate homemaker with her love of cooking, baking and cleaning! She was known for her pies and baked goods, which she generously shared with everyone. You could never come to her house without getting being offered a meal and leaving with something to eat later! She never forgot a birthday with a homemade treat and was an example of selfless service to her family and friends. Marta stayed home and raised her three children before getting back into the workplace and having a successful career at Questar Gas in their call center. She retired to take care of her mother and her grandchildren. She later became a volunteer at Cottonwood Hospital and continued volunteering at IMC until the pandemic sent the volunteers home. She loved her volunteer friends!
She is survived by her daughters Julie (Dave) Williams, Lisa (Kirk) Hooton and son Christopher Pratt, sister-in-law Christine Whipple and brother-in-law and sister-in-law James and Diane Pratt. She has eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, who she loved dearly. Marta is preceded in death by her husband, Bryant, her parents, her brother Blaine Whipple, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Sylvia and Ray Choquette, grandson Jess Hooton and granddaughter Nicole McCormick.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local food bank as our mom always made sure everyone was well fed. Our family would like to thank the incredible care givers at Canyon Home Health and Hospice as well as the staff at The Abbington in Murray for taking such excellent care of our mother in her final days.
A celebration of Marta's life will be on Saturday, February 10 from 4-6 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 S 900 E, Millcreek. Guests are encouraged to use parking and enterance located on the north side of the building.
