Mary Cabrera Salazar

Mary passed away on March 9th, 2010.  Born on June 24th, 1920, in Twin Falls, ID daughter of Ynocensio and Julia Garcia Cabrera.  Married Joe C. Salazar in Preston, ID.

Mom and Dad always had a warm welcome and an open door to everyone.  Mom took great pride in taking care of herself, her home and all her loved ones.  She will be remembered for her loving ways, her beautiful quilts and her warm tortillas and beans that she served for all who visited.

Survived by children Margo (Duane) Johnson, Olga “Lisa” (Mark) Latta, Carl R. (Robin) Salazar; brother Joe (Donna) Cabrera; sisters Lucy (Eppie) Gonzales and Susan (Albert) Medel.  “Grandma Sal” has 10 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and 6 great, great grandchildren, yet she was “Mom” and “Aunt Mary” to many others as well.

She was nominated “Woman of the Year” for St. Patrick’s Church in 1978.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband Joe; son Robert J. Salazar; brothers Jesse Cabrera and Tony Cabrera; granddaughter Cynthia Duston Milligan.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Legacy Village for the “TLC” for Mary.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 15th 1:00 PM at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 4501 West 5215 South, Kearns.  Friends may call upon the family on Sunday, March 14th from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, also at the church, where the vigil will begin at 7:00 PM.  Interment to follow at Mt. Calvary, 4th Ave. and “T” Street, Salt Lake City.

Though she will remain in our hearts and memories, she will be greatly missed.  Rest in peace, for your work is done.

Our family, Our thoughts, prayers and love goes out to you all. Some of my greatest memories of Aunt Mary were those of our family reunions at the park or parties. They always started with a great big hug, kiss and hello from Aunt Mary. Then a whole day of great food, lots and lots of laughs, some hilarious games of volleyball, badminton (who brought this game?) or softball. Aunt Mary would laugh and smile and laugh and smile.. Then the day would end with exactly the same way it started, a great big hug and kiss from Aunt Mary. I will always remember her being the happiest when she was around her family and friends. I will never forget her warm and welcoming hugs or her beautiful smile. God Bless you Aunt Mary.
