Mary Katherine Petersen

April 16, 1943 - March 12, 2013

Mary Katherine Petersen

Born April 16, 1943 in Brainerd, Minnesota, Mary was the youngest of seven siblings. Family gatherings were her favorite as they were filled with love, laughter and good food. Mary also loved music and dancing. She often spoke about how in high school she looked forward to Fridays because she got to go with her friends to the weekly dance at The Water Front in Marquette, Michigan. Mary's favorite holiday was Christmas and looked forward each year to celebrating the birth of Jesus and being with family. Her favorite Christmas was when her only child, Therese, was born that December. Mary and her daughter enjoyed 46 years together. Too short, yet so full of memories.

Mary was a very caring grandmother to her two grandchildren, Alannah and Michael. They were the highlight of her day, and they will miss her greatly. Don't worry mom, your loving son-in-law Brett will take good care of us. Your angels have now come to take you home, and many loved ones are waiting for you at The Water Front. Can we have this last dance?

Mary is survived by her daughter Therese (Brett) Clay and grandchildren Alannah and Michael Clay of Draper, UT; siblings Robert Petersen of Seattle, WA, Marguerite (Harley) Adair of Marquette, MI, James (Joan) Petersen of Sandy, UT, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her father Robert and mother Margaret Petersen, brother Richard Petersen and sisters Geraldine Stuart and Patricia Wolff.

Vigil services will be held Sunday, March 17th at 7 p.m. at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City where friends may greet the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 18th at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 300 East 11800 South, Draper. Urn burial will be held Tuesday, March 19th at 11 a.m. at Mt. View Memorial Estates, 3115 East 7800 South, Cottonwood Heights.

The family would like to thank the caring angels at CareSource who helped guide and care for Mary and her family through the journey that brought Mary home. Memorial donations may be made in Mary's name to CareSource Foundation.

In Loving Memory

Therese and family, I am so very sorry for your loss. The obituary was beautiful. I know your children will miss her very much but she is watching down on them and will always be with them. Many prayers and peace be with you! Love, Shelly

We will miss Aunt Mary Kay. So many wonderful memories. When the 4 K's were young, Aunt Mary was our "fun" aunt because she really wasn't much older than us! She would let us stay up late and sneak us snacks and chat with us while our mother and older Aunts visited in the front room. I also remember Aunt Mary Kay coming to visit us in Hawaii, she just plain loved Hawaii! Dave and I send our deepest condolences and we will make sure that Mary is prayed for by name at church here this Sunday. Much love. Kelly and Dave

Can you imagine the celebration in heaven right now? Grandma, Grandpa, Pat, Gerri, Richard, Aunt Grace, Cousin Grace.......We are so sorry for your loss Therese, Brett, Alannah, and Michael, but we know you find comfort in the fact that Aunt Mary is dancing at her reunion. I wonder if Grandma made caramel rolls? Much love flowing your way through this week, next week, and the weeks to come, Kristi, Rob, Dylan & Natalie

Therese, it has been a long road for your mom, you and your entire family. Please know that I so admire how strong you have been through it all and what a wonderful daughter you have been. I know you will miss "Mom", and Alannah will miss her grandma. Katelyn and I are here for you both. And we will pray for the eternal rest of your loving mother.
