Mathew (Mat) Weiner
September 21, 1983 - February 21, 2025
Mathew (Mat) Weiner, beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, passed away on February 21, 2025, in South Jordan, Utah, surrounded by his wife, children, and family. Diagnosed with cancer in 2019, Mat fought courageously for his health and cherished every moment he could with his family. For over five years, he battled cancer, dedicating himself to raising his children and creating lasting memories with his loved ones.
Mat was born on September 21, 1983, in Murray, Utah, to Thomas (Tom) and Lynda (Carlton) Weiner. He grew up in Taylorsville, Utah, graduating from Taylorsville High School in 2002, where he participated in ROTC. In recent years, Mat was close to finishing his degree in engineering at Utah State University, but was sadly unable to complete it due to his treatment.
Mat had many passions, including cars, snowboarding, grilling, smoking meats, superhero movies, and playing video games with his kids. He enjoyed ski and snowboard outings to Brighton with his family and cherished a memorable last trip to Park City on Easter Day 2024, where he was able to board and enjoy the mountain with his loved ones before his health declined. Mat was grateful that he was able to watch his kids ski one last time this year. He also treasured family vacations to favorite spots such as Seattle, Sedona, and California, and fulfilled his dream of visiting Disneyland with his family.
Mat is survived by his wife of 18 years Ashley (Ewing); daughters Meredith and Bailey; son Hayden; mother Lynda; sisters Michelle Huff (Matt Huff), Melissa Weiner, and brothers Nicholas Weiner, Christopher Weiner; and a loving extended family of in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Tom and brother James Weiner.
Rest peacefully, Mat. Your love and presence will be deeply missed. Thank you to the wonderful nurses and doctors of Huntsman Cancer Institute, University of Utah, and Jordan Valley. Your support made his final years meaningful.
In line with his final wishes, a celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, February 26th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 S 900 E, Salt Lake City, Utah. Burial services will be on Thursday, February 27th at 2:00 p.m. at South Jordan Cemetery, 10650 S 1055 W, South Jordan, Utah. Please share your memories and well wishes in lieu of flowers.
In Loving Memory
I am so sorry I will not have the chance to talk politics with Mat anymore. Ashley, I know you hated us "arguing" but Mat and I always loved it. We always had more common ground than not, but we could always find a good political debate to have. 😊 I spent a lot of the day he passed looking at all the pictures and videos I have with Mat in them and remembering the fun we had going to baby animal days, corn bellies, and camping. I wish there were more. I love you and your sweet family, and I wish you peace at this time of sadness.

I didn’t know Mat very well, but had several interactions with him for work. I enjoyed talking to him. My condolences to the family.
