Matthew (Matt) Fotes, 67, of Salt Lake City, UT, passed away peacefully at his home on April 20, 2025. Matt was born on December 1, 1957 to George and Sophie Fotes at Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City, UT. He was minutes younger than his twin brother Michael. Matt was born with spinal meningitis and went through a spinal tap just an hour after his birth. Then got hospital pneumonia and was hospitalized for the first 69 days of his life. When Matt was 18 he hurt his back which caused him a lifetime of chronic pain. In 2020 he was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). Even though Matt didn’t have the greatest start in life due to health complications, he made the best of every day and put his all in everything that he did.
As a child Matt was very outgoing and participated in little league football and had a love for bowling. He even dedicated four nights a week to bowling. Into adulthood Matt kept his outgoing look on life and enjoyed spending time with his twin brother and his many lifelong friends. Whether it was just sitting around enjoying a drink with family and friends or fishing with his twin brother and his adopted nieces and nephews he made the best of every moment.
Matt had a calming flirtatious nature to him and always used it to lighten moods when things looked bleak. Matt will be greatly missed by many and his memory will be eternal.
Matt is survived by his twin brother Michael Fotes, many family friends, and his dog Stella. His twin brother Michael Fotes would like to send many thanks to the Lasher Family and the Hawkes Family for all their help and comfort during this difficult time. He would also like to give thanks to CNS Hospice Care for their help and dedication with taking care of Matt.
