Matthew Tran Nguyen
July 11, 1999 - May 20, 2023
With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the untimely passing of Matthew Tran Nguyen on May 20, 2023, at the tender age of 23, following his two-year battle against cancer. Embraced by his loving family, Matthew peacefully departed this world, leaving behind a void that will forever be felt.
Born on July 11, 1999, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Matthew graced the world with his presence. An exceptional individual, he possessed an extraordinary intellect and unwavering determination. By the time he reached the age of 20, he had already attained his bachelor's degree in psychology, a testament to his remarkable drive and commitment to his studies. At the time of his diagnosis, Matthew was on the precipice of completing his master's program in industrial and organizational psychology, with a mere three courses standing between him and his aspirations.
Matthew's true character shone brightly in the compassionate and selfless manner in which he engaged with the world. He had an uncanny ability to bring laughter to the lives of his friends, always going the extra mile to ensure they felt acknowledged and loved. His thoughtfulness, kindness, and boundless generosity touched the hearts of all those fortunate enough to know him. Matthew's passions were varied and vibrant, from his love of cooking, baking, and trying new foods to his adoration of karaoke, K-Pop, video games, anime, and the art of playing pranks. His infectious laughter, coupled with his hilarious personality and nurturing spirit, will forever echo in the hearts of those who cherished him.
Matthew leaves behind a legacy of love, forever engraved in the hearts of his grandmothers, Nguyen Thi Yen and Nguyen Thi Nguoi, his devoted parents, Nga Duong and Tuan Nguyen, his adoring sisters, Julie Nguyen and Michelle Nguyen, and his faithful feline companion, Chimera. Matthew joins his grandfather, Tran Dinh Tan, who awaits him in eternal bliss.
Funeral services to honor Matthew's life will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in West Jordan. The viewing will commence at 8:00 AM, followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 AM. Matthew will find his final resting place in the hallowed grounds of Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
In this time of profound loss, let us remember Matthew Tran Nguyen as a remarkable soul who graced our lives with his radiant spirit, leaving an everlasting impact on all who had the privilege to know him. As we gather to bid farewell to a beloved son, brother, and friend, let us hold onto the love, laughter, and joy that he brought into our lives, finding solace in the memories that will forever be etched in our hearts.

Dear Nguyen Family, Matt was one of the kindest and funniest people I've ever met. He always made everyone feel welcome and had the gift of always knowing what to say to someone to not only make them feel better but also heard. I am so very deeply sorry and you have my deepest sympathies and love in the face of this profound and difficult loss. I'll be praying for your family. Love always, Prachi
