September 16, 1922 - July 10, 2013
Maye N. Callahan Loewen
Affectionately known as Butch
Maye passed away peacefully in her home on July 10, 2013. She was born on September 16, 1922 in Kaysville, Utah to Jack and Annie Marie Barnes Nance. She was raised by her Uncle Dewey Barnes, Uncle Joe Joe and Elva Henderson.
Graduated from Weber High School. Growing up Maye was always the Poster Queen in Ogden parades. She was President of the Ladies of the Guard and of the PTA. She worked for a physician, Dr Dumke, in Ogden and for the IRS. Maye married and divorced Jack (J.J.) Callaham. She later married Glenn Loewen on Sept. 2, 1966. She loved her church, The Cathedral of the Madeleine, was a Eucharistic minister and volunteered at The Good Samaritan Program. She was also once named Catholic Woman of the Year. Mom was very involved in our lives growing up and she loved her grandchildren. She was always a lady, and a great one at that. She was always the bell of the ball.
Survived by her daughter Patty; grandchildren Paige, Casey, Matt, and Aimee; great grandchildren Zach, Zane, and Macon; 1 great-great grandchild; and ‘adopted’ daughter Shey Erickson. Preceded in death her husband Glenn and her son Michael.
A wake will be held on Tuesday July 16 from 6-8 pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday July 17 at 11:00 am at The Cathedral of the Madeleine Catholic Church, 331 E Street, Salt Lake City. Interment will follow the Funeral Mass at an estimated time of 1:30pm at Washington Heights Memorial Park 4500 Washington Blvd., Ogden.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Bristol Hospice for their loving care.
