Melany Zoumadakis

June 14, 1957 - April 12, 2023

Our beloved mother, sister, and friend, Melany (65), passed away on April 12, 2023, in St. Mark's Hospital, surrounded by family and loved ones. Melany was born in Salt Lake City, UT, on June 14, 1957, to William and Helen Zoumadakis. Melany graduated from Skyline High School in 1975 and, in 1979, graduated from Westminster College with a bachelor's degree in nursing. She worked as a Registered Nurse for 38 years in multiple fields, with infants and children at Primary Children's Hospital, Emergency Rooms, and Home Health, caring for the elderly. But her real passion was working in Hospice, helping her patients and their families through the difficult process of passing on. Melany always showed so much compassion and love for all of her patients. She built relationships with their loved ones and continued to help them through their grieving well after her patients had passed on.

In her younger years, Melany danced in the Greek Dance group. She also competed in gymnastics, winning numerous medals through high school and college. Melany loved traveling and took on many adventures. After graduating college, she moved to San Francisco. She was an excellent roller skater and worked as a medic with the Golden Gate Skate Patrol. In the early '80s, Melany backpacked through Europe, exploring several different cultures, skied through the Alps in Switzerland, and spent plenty of time in Greece getting to know her Greek heritage better. Upon becoming a mother, she frequently took her children on new adventures. She loved skiing and enjoyed teaching it to her children. She enjoyed riding horses into the Granddaddy Lakes for week-long camping and fishing trips. She was the life of the party, no matter what she was doing, and she lived a good life.

She is survived by her daughter Calley Clark (Eric Hennessy), son Ryley Clark, stepsons Jeremy Cooper and Loran Quincy Clark, sister Kathy (Chris) Floor, grandchildren Addison and Kylie Clark, Ethan, Zoey, and Isaac Hennessy, and all her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter Tanna Jo Fillmore, parents William and Helen Zoumadakis, brother George Zoumadakis, sister Wendy Wright, and grandparents.

A viewing will be on Tuesday, April 25, from 6-8 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Millcreek. Guests are encouraged to use parking and entrance at the north end of the building.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 26, at 10 AM at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 279 South 300 West, Salt Lake City. Internment to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 1342 East 500 South, Salt Lake City.

Melany was such a caring person. She was one of the first people we met in out small community while my mom was sick. She was so kind to a young girl loosing her mom and husband loosing his wife. I will never forget that kindness  Melany later on became a second mom for a long time. I count my blessing for having known her. My condolences to her family and friends during this time

I first met Melany at the Willow Wood Care Center, my mother Aphrodite Marcooles was there only 4 months, she took care of my mother so good, my mother was like a Greek yiayia to her and everyone there at Willow Wood. Melany was such a loving and caring person taking care of the elderly. May she Redt in Peace, May her Memory be Eternal.

Melany first arrived at my mother's doorstep and bedside over a dozen years ago as her nurse and case manager during a difficult time. Melany was untiring and relentless in getting my mother the help she needed. Her care and competency made all the difference for my mother, enabling her to stay in her home for ten more years. She was a fierce advocate for her patients and she became a loyal and close friend to the both of us. She often invited us over to visit and to share the delicious food she loved to prepare. Food was one of her ways of showing love. No matter her circumstances, she was always generous, even when life wasn't generous with her. She cared deeply about her family and her friends, whom she treated as extended family. My mother and I felt the same about her. We feel immeasurably lucky to have known Melany. She was literally a life saver for us and so many. We hope she is happily reacquainted with Tanna Jo, and her family here on Earth can find peace and consolation in the mark she left on the world. Prayers to you.
